Reddit and other forums are not toxic
Related to Steam Discussions.

In general, people can get your point and give relevant answers on Reddit and other forums.

I've recently tried re-posting somewhere else something I recently posted in the "Suggestions / Ideas" forum and I got a lot of relevant answers and ideas.

People caught the point of my discussion, they didn't beat around the bush and didn't accuse me of something I've never said.

Sometimes you really feel like you're doing something wrong, but I'm really glad it wasn't the case for me.

This said, I would love to see the same thing here, and that's why I have something in mind to improve the situation. People who are tired of getting toxicity and BS in the forums can add me so I can explain a little bit better. Moderators: people adding me on their own and hearing my ideas is not a crime.

Now let's give a point to this post: this thread will be about discussing about the differences between Steam Discussions and other forums like Reddit, including but not limited to:
  • Are the rules of the forums good?
  • How can the forums be improved?
  • What are the forums failing at?
  • Are the answers you're usually getting in your posts satisfying?

Note: this post is not about game forums

reddit is a cesspool, I used it once and never again.

I hate the way others vote on your post and if a couple of idiots vote early on, goodbye thread so nobody with a decent IQ can see and post to it.

I have yet to see a logical reply to any of the threads I made there when I posted valid issues and pointed out valid points relating to the issue, all I got was the typical unintelligent neanderthal replies and petty name calling.

Funny thing is a couple of weeks later a game developer highlighted the exact same issue I was discussing and validated it to be true. Yet there could be no discussion made on it prior due to the terrible Reddit system and its users.

That's weird, do they have some policies about politics by any chance? I've never tried running a sub-reddit, plus I can't remember all the rules, but I've never tried talking about politics.
It isn't just politics. Subreddits form their own congregations and move parishioners into a higher power. Those who speak against the choirs risk getting censored for wrongthink. Considering reddit is literally the "frontpage of the internet", this has proven it's negative impact on culture. You censor and block people because they think differently. They are so influenced to just roll down the curtains when it comes to opposing opinions.

The site's foundation consist of blindly supporting things because you are supposed to. Because you are told to. Should you form your own opinions, you'll risk banishment. There are smaller communities that do just that but of course they are usually targeted and banned accordingly.

Keep an open mind.

Excellent reply and true with regards to the majority of Reddit and Discord groups where censorship and mob mentality are the rule of order instead of fair moderation.
If you don't know those forums, then it's likely that they're not toxic.

Most "not-so-toxic" forums are private or small forums for private chit-chat rather than memes.
Driving license for internet = less toxic ppl.
Reddit allows you to bury posts users don't agree with using downvotes, without the need to refute them. This leads to echochamers where only the majority's opinion gets visibility.

On top of that, owners/admins of subreddits can force their opinions to be the dominant one, because they can just kick out anyone that disagrees.

Reddit is the last place you want for thoughtful free-speech discussion.
Reddit? Not toxic?

I got downvoted to oblivion with a post that I wanted to explain someone's side without actually believing their side (that I understood but still disagreed with).

Everyone responding said I was an idiot. Weak argument, etc.

Heck, people downvote for someone just misunderstanding and how dare they be human and admit their faults, downvote.
Idk /r/braincels is not the definition of great and healthy people, so.. same with T_D people.
I've asked some people and yeah, looks like Reddit is not the best place. Still better than Steam Community though. I've proceeded deleting most of my posts in which I try to discuss about anything on the Steam Community.

I feel like there's no point in discussing about anything in the Steam Community forums, it's a huge waste of time since most people are just robots who say the same exact thing over and over again and don't understand since they're braindead.

I'll just leave this one because I'm only getting useful answers whatsoever (except one toxic answer, but that's in huge minority).

Apparently, OT is the best place of the community.

I even answer 500.000 times repeating the same thing over and over again, and they still won't understand the point. I think they're doing that on purpose, honestly.

First of all, the definition of "trolling" has been lost in the time and no one understands what it means anymore.

Plus, I can stand "trolling", but when it comes to 95% of the posters being that way, the forums lose entirely their point, which is actually d i s c u s s i n g.

I mean, if a forum section is 95% trollers, why would I even bother to post in there? It makes no sense whatsoever.
