I do however feel like they ought to be considerably cheaper when you're buying the GAME, like, "oh hey here's a separate download for those files for a buck or two".
Borderlands 1 and 2, Dishonored 1 and 2, Deus Ex MD and HR, half life and portal, heck even Viscera Cleanup Detail and Goat Simulator have great soundtracks. If you don't like the music that comes with the game, I feel bad for you - they put certain pieces in for mood and hints for you ('aggressive' 'exploration', etc) so... maybe you just need to learn how to listen to musical cues and appreciate the brilliance that some games give us.
I'm not talking about not selling the soundtrack and I'm not talking about soundtracks with actual songs in them,
I think OST's should be sold separately & not be part of a bundle alongside ingame content just so it pushes pricing up, A lot of todays OST's hold in game tracks that are tailored to induce a mood at that point in the game.
As an example think of the Sonic the Hedgehog music with all the beeping and other sound effects,
Why would someone want to listen to that on the train going to work or on the bus going to school or when relaxing at home
I don't think Sonic has an OST for sale but there's plenty of OST's that only contain that type of music and we're forced to buy them in Season Passes and bundles.
I don't have an issue with OST's being sold, the thing is I don't want to be forced to pay for them when I don't want them,
An OST isn't an in-game item and it has no effect on playing the game,
For most of us OST's are nothing but dead weight, all they do is increase the cost of any bundle or Season Pass they're in.
You, not most of us. Speak for your self.
And what about all the map pack, scenariopacks, artbooks, HD backgrounds for your desktop, Added outfits, and so on and on. You have no problem with them being in bundles, only with soundtracks, strange.
Hi, You're right, I can't speak for everyone but I'm confident a poll of yay's & nay's would back me up.
Hi, I'm not questioning the use of a soundtrack, They're a vital component of any game, I 'm questioning those that are sold as a DLC which is then used as a component of a bundle pushing the price up. I haven't got an issue with an OST DLC being available to buy I simply disagree with a non game component being included in bundles.
Hello again, I haven't mentioned those things so let me explain what I think for each one, Map and Scenario packs are in game content as are outfits, HD backgrounds & artbooks should fall into the same category as the OST ie: non ingame dlc's which I've already mentioned.
The ideal scenario would be to put any art work and OST's all in one package leaving it up to the consumer to decide if they want to buy that as well as the game and the in game bundle content.
Are you talking about the game, as a single, standalone product? Or are you talking about a bundle containing the game and other things?
Because if you're talking about a standalone fame purchase, then yes, I concur, but not for the same reasoning. My reasoning is that Steam forces download of the OST files as if they were part of the game, and there's no way to prevent this. If they're treated as DLC st least one can choose beforehand not to download them.
But there's no real reason that soundtracks shouldn't be included in some kind of "deluxe limited edition" type of bundle.
Um...
So you're not talking about selling soundtracks or you are talking about selling soundtracks?
In most cases, OST's are sold separate or as a bundle. This has been common for ages.
Well, Sonic had/has some of the finest 8-bit songs ever created. It's personal taste, but I could see how people would love to randomly play Green Hill Zone or Spring Yard.
Can you provide an example of a title that sparked this topic?
If you're not interested, don't buy the bundle? I'm sorry, I'm just not following the overall point you're making here, friend. :)
Weird.
