Yes they are dumb.
Learning to write is dumb.
They should just teach kids how to text message with short abbreviations and teach em the meanings of emojis.

Did you ever have to use P.E.A.C.E for paragraph structure? Or is that only in Canada?

I don’t know what P.E.A.C.E stands for, so it’s probably a thing in Canadian education.

I do know that I sucked at economics essays though, because for the life of me I could not understand how economics work.

The P of your PEACE paragraph must be the thematic statement you created.
E = a reference to the story that supports the thematic statement you created.
A = how or why does this reference support the thematic statement you created?
C = connect to another reference from the same text.
E = expand on the thematic statement you created by discussing how it relates to the world in a broader context or how it relates to what you already know about the idea.

Ah thanks for the explanation/elaboration; we didn’t have that in my country’s schools, but we did have to follow similar structures in our essays.

I don’t really know how I did it, I just wrote mine as though I was trying to debate and convince the reader to see my point of view.

Essays aren't too bad, especially if your teacher gives you a structure to help get you started/

My English teacher just went on Maternity Leave for the year so we have a new teacher for my senior year of high school. She actually uses this P.E.A.C.E paragraph structuring, whereas my previous teacher didn't really have a structure for us to follow. Now that we are supposed to be using this new structuring form, I am confused ,because for the past 3 years we have been doing things a lot different.

I hated them, but always did well. I even had a few in college that got recognition and published in the school paper and later in the local city paper because of the subject etc. Long time ago though.

I liked them as long as the topic wasn’t awful. Even if it was; challenge yourself to make it interesting. Longest one I ever turned in was about 14 pages; it needed to be 2ish. I started it in 11th grade, used it for a class and ended up used it again college.
