Coraline Movie VW Beetle

I am currently watching the movie Coraline, and the only car ever shown is a Volkswagen Beetle, the parents drive it, the neighbors drive it, and it is parked outside of a store. I searched up on the internet if it was a sponsorship, but I found nothing. Someone please tell me if this was a spnsorship or if they were even allowed to show the VW symbol in the movie
