Hmm, to do or not to do?
Should I keep training to become an esports player, or should I focus more on academia? Both are appealing choices, but I must choose one.

I’d go with the realistic choice of academia.

Go with academia, esports probably arent going to be a thing in 10 to 20 years.

Pretty much these two, when eSports dies out you'll feel pretty dumb.
not unless u create fortnite 2.0
I guess academia it is, but boredom is a major problem. I don't know, I'm not yet prepared to leave the current phase that I'm in.
E-sports has a age drop off so what you going to do when those reaction speeds slow down?

Is there an alternative career that the type of e-sport you play would complement? The types of problems you have to solve or the environment being simulated could perhaps give an advantage to your thinking depending on what it is you play. I would definitely meet any minimum requirements such the 5 grades A-C for GCSE in the UK, but if you can find something that could interest you long term especially if/when the e-sports drops off, doing the e-sports could still be worth while alongside.

Since you have no idea how E-Sports works in 2018, i hardly doubt you want to get into the scene. So do something productive, because "training" should'ave been a thing as a kid nowadays.
I mean, statically speaking e-sports are just like normal sports in the sense that you’re probably not going to get anywhere even if you do train incredibly hard
So stick to academia for better chance of having not horrible job

You could always try...

Academia. Find something you’d like to do, get a degree in that, then have a go at getting into the esports scene in your spare time, if you can. That way, if you don’t get into esports, you’ll still have good job opportunities, and won’t need to stress too much.

To be fair, I have no idea how easy/hard it is to get into esports, so my suggestion may not be feasible.

You are not gone able to support yourself with e-sports your entire life, soon your reflexes will dull and you are out of the picture with no education and no money.

Academia, like, you have a much guaranteed future if you go for that rather than Esports, which for me, a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ of unguaranted events and trends

Why do you think that is?
Hmm, let's see:
Deadlines
Demanding schedule
Homework
Thesis/Dissertation
Even more deadlines
Reports
Field trips
Deadlines

Although that sounds exciting, if you're aspiring to be in a top university, only to find out that I wasted some of my life in not improving my performance whatsoever, the future seems bleak to me, and grinding, as well.

knowledge sets you up for life, videogames sets you up for posting on the internet about videogames
