Why is cream of tartar so damn expensive?
Why is cream of tartar so damn expensive?
Messaggio originale di Radical Left Lunatic:
Apparently cream of tartar is a byproduct of wine making(Or if you chill grape juice). So it takes a while to make a small amount.

because it's made of tar
Because unlike his brother Jar Jar, Tar Tar is actually respectable.
A lot of spices are expensive.

Tartar sauce is not the same as cream of tartar. Please don't mix the two.
But tartar sauce is creamy, so is cream of tartar. Its only logical that they would be related lol.

troll thread

Totally, I'm a troll for wondering why grocery stores can justify $8 for a tiny tiny jar of cream of tartar. Your basement dwelling is showing, bro.

Nope.

Tartar sauce is a mayonnaise-based sauce made using cornichons, capers, and tarragon or dill. It is usually served with seafood.

Cream of Tartar is potassium bitartrate in the form of powder. It is acidic, and is used in cooking mainly to stabilise meringue.

It's used in a lot of recipes, many of which I've found and frankly don't see justifying the price of the cream of tartar to make, even if they do sound amazing. It can make cookies very chewy for one, but these miniscule little containers maybe a third of an oz are like $8 or more at like every grocery store
I remember using that stuff to make play doh

Yeah I've heard of that too. Frankly I just want to make chewy cookies because I hate cakey cookies and crunchy is meh.
I found it here for 3 bucks if you want to buy it there. But up to you. They are a name brand.
