The latter is pitiful. The former deserves every negative outcome that results from their stupidity.
Either that or I leave the arguing behind which isn't really arguing if you've got a point to make.
We are gamers we know how to handle fanboys/girls/♥♥♥♥♥♥'s. The OP must be really stupid to ask this question on Steam the promised land of PC gaming.
The best way to convince someone is to understand how they came to their conclusions and just how their mind works. For example, if you were trying to convince a hardcore Republican that environmental protection should be a priority, you could use the fact that many popular conservatives throughout American history have been fervent conservationists. If they are religious, you can quote the Bible which says that it is the duty of Man to be the custodian of nature.
And be aware of your own biases. It's likely the other person also thinks you're too stupid to understand their point. Sometimes, you may even have to separate yourself from your ego and admit you've overlooked a fact or allowed your feelings to get in the way.
I don't want to sound cocky, but once you realize you are levels ahead of them, going down to them in order to prove something is a waste
