Blisters - pop 'em or nah?
I got this huge ass blister on the lower part of my right thigh after having some dried skin.
I never really had blisters this huge so I usually tend to ignore them. But this bad boy almost prevents me from wearing socks or shoes and I really need to wear such.

Safe to pop or nope?

As a former military guy, pop that sucker. Just keep it clean as possible, maybe stick a plaster on it if you need to be doing stuff, but don't keep it on.

That said I've never had one on my thigh before......

To be exact, it's not on the ankle, nor is it on my thigh. It's somewhere in between but the thigh is closest.

Sure, just make sure to use a needle and drain it out. If you remove the skin where the blister was, then you could get an infection there. Place a bandage over it if you did that instead of the needle and you should be good to go.

Using something that is sterile; yes.

Don't get it infected though as the skin below is exposed.

So in general, getting blisters doesn't have to be a sign of something bad?
Royleston Sep 25, 2018 @ 10:49pm
If this blister is caused only by friction, leave it be, the loose skin of this blister is working as a patch to make a new layer of epidermal skin grow faster and it prevents this area from scarring.

If you're suffering from incredible pain or if the blister is filled with blood or pus, you'll have to visit your physician for ambulant treatment as ridiculous as it seems to be for you.

You can cover the blister with some soft tissue or a strap to damp it and in order to lower the friction and pressure, do not forget to change them regularely.

I'm not a physician, but sometimes I regret for not visiting one after getting one nasty blister.

Blisters are generally caused by dry skin and friction.

There's nothing to fear.

If they keep re-appearing, you need to find what's causing them to begin with.

Shining on the blister with the cellphone's flash makes it look clear and clean so it gotta be a friction caused bastard.

There's no shame in popping a little painkiller, if it hurts. Stress is enhancing the irritations and inhibiting the regeneration of new tissue. But again, when in doubt, visit a physician or an trusty witch, if you're somewhere in the wilderness. :D

Yes, pop it, but in the right way if it is seeming clear fluid or blood underneath. If it's pus I'd go see a doctor or not mess with it and go if it gets any worse. First clean the blister and surround area with soap and then use some rubbing alcohol or peroxide and let dry.( you can make a solution with bleach as well called Dakin's solution) Cut it open with a knife or scalpel. To sterileize wash in soap/water then soak in rubbing alcohol then hold under a lighter flame, let cool and do not sit it down or touch the blade. Don't just make a hole, make a small slit instead, at least one. If you can make two, one that would drain downwards by gravity and one that is upwards would be the best. Push on it to drain with clean hand or gloves on if you have any. If you notice any pus, I'd put some neosporin on it. If it is just clear/yellow/or blood out then cover it after it's drained. I like using Leukotape or KT tape for blisters if I still have to wear shoes, but other things work too. Leave it on for a day at a time, but change it if it gets wet from showers, whatever. You can also use bandaids, different made for blister things like moleskin, 2nd skin and others. I had to use duct tape one time, that works if you have nothing and can't walk, but I don't recommend. Good luck

Trust me, leave it alone. The fluid under the skin acts as a natural cushion or bandage. If you leave it alone and let it dry up and heal on it's own, you'll never feel a thing. If you insist on popping the blister, be prepared to live with the pain.

^ This.

If the blister is small and not annoying you, let it be. It acts as it's own cream and bandaid, while new skins forms underneath.

If it's big and annoying... then you do rupture it. You will likely have to remove the top layer of skin, add some cream, then a bandaid to cover and protect it.

Consider replacing clothing and shoes, which created the blister in the first place. As blisters are formed from a lot of friction, normally from old/damaged clothing rubbing against it continuously. Or your shoes might be too small for you, etc.

Don't go near wood next time. It's dangerous.
