What's wrong with cultural appropriation?

I'm really confused when people screech at other people for wearing something from another culture, like isnt that a good thing??? Nobody owns a culture and doing stuff like that should bring us all together, not create an even bigger schism. And if cultural appropriation is so bad, then why are non-white people allowed to go to Starbucks? Aren't they "appropriating their culture?"

I think that if you have something to say which you feel is important enough to take the time to communicate, and you really do want other people to hear it, then you would state that thing in a way which would be understood as easily as possible by as many people as possible. It's not just that humans want to learn from each other and about each other. It's also that they want to feel connected to each other. They want to feel like part of a larger group or family.

Saying that someone can't adopt parts of the culture is basically separating them from others. It's divisive. History has shown us time and time again that divisiveness leads to very bad outcomes.

The whole idea of cultural appropriation needs to die. For everyone's sake. Cultural adoption and cultural adaptation are GOOD things which foster peace and forward progress.

I have watched the people pushing open boarders globally then go on to cry about cultral appropriation. How do you preserve separate cultures if the world has no borders, no nations. You self censor and that is what cultural appropriation is being used for a method of censoring the self. So we are free to travel within our literal bodies, but not free to travel in our minds to embrace other cultures. The radical progressive left are into a weird sort of cultural conservatism versus pushing what they see as multiculturalism as unifying factor for the human race.

Before the internet and cheap travel the general populace of any country didn't instant any access to other peoples cultures like we do today. Hence the amount of Weeaboo's on Steam due to cross cultural contamination of the internet. One day Japan's culture will fall to the Weeaboo's for sure.

Because they're liars and don't care one iota for people's cultures or cultural diversity. Every idiot knows that if you actually care about diversity the very last thing you should do is shove a bunch of diverse cultures together so they can all destroy each other and reform into a new one. They know exactly what they're doing when they play this multicultural card and diversity is the furthest thing from their minds.

Outside of the western world, almost nobody wants any parts of this. Even the people who flood into other's countries would never allow to happen to their own what they're responsible for in other's. The great Viktor Orban said recently "Hungary will never be a nation of immigrants" and that's a sentiment shared pretty much by the entire nonwestern world because it values it's identity in a way that western people largely don't.

No I don't think they are all liars human nature and all that. People still believe the world is flat then people can believe in anything.

I really don’t get why they call themselves progressive or left really, but these revolutionary authoritarians think a social constructionist cultural conservation plan will allow open borders and preserve cultures (as if).

They are convinced they can make everyone stay in the cultural box with social engineering and make diverse multiculturalism work. Not saying it will actually work, but these types will get at the kids young in schools/colleges/universities with the social sciences. The you have got government funded insurrection to overthrow itself and breed a uptight self censored generation of programmed drones.

The progressive left will out shine the right on the preservation of cultural conservatism of diverse cultures. Next stop the global Cultural Appropriation police giving fines for non Japanese people doing a Haiku or something.

Several years ago some guy tried to market kilts to carpenters because they were so much cooler and more comfortable and offered a lot more range of motion but the idea never took off. Besides, once it got hot enough to matter half the carpenters I ever knew just took off their pants and ran around in their underwear anyway.

But God, could you imagine a job site full of skirt-wearing carpenters all skipping around like girls in their pretty dresses? Nothing would ever get done. Half of them probably wouldn't even wear any underwear, just for a laugh.
