It sounds like they don't make good quality tapes though. I might not even bother.
I have a HTPC and use OBS to record things.
Most don't outside of either nolstalgia or just checking old recordings.
Do people still make them? Well, yes but I'd advise not to buy any new VCRs since none of them have the same quality old VCR's have. You're better off buying an old VCR and do some maintenance on it. Hell, even low-end VCRs from back then are miles ahead of VCRs made today.
Tape wise your best bet is finding new Oldstock.
Same thing with audio casette tapes. There are still plenty of devices made to play tapes but they're AWFUL. Just buy an old Walkman or something.
To be honest, since HD and blu-ray, I would find it nearly impossible to watch anything from a VHS tape. The quality would blind my brain.
Here's something I bet a lot of people probably didn't know - Sony only stopped producing Betamax tapes in 2015 and selling them in 2016.
When I first read this statement, my first though was 'really?'. But then I will always search something out to find the facts... To be honest, I though betamax died in the 1980s. Who on earth was still using betamax in the 2015...

I use my xbox one or PS3 for watching blu-ray movie, never owned a blu-ray player. Mostly I watch most of my HD movies on sky TV. Rarer buy blu-ray film unless its something I really want.
Im old school in wanting my content on physical media but most of my stuff these days seem to be digital.. songs MP3, movies on sky, digital games on computer and on xbox one. Even my photos are digital these days.
