I don't really play horror games but I played Halo 1 when I was very young and the flood sections (particularly the bit with Keyes) gave me nightmares.

Also I play STALKER which can get pretty creepy at times.

Silent Hill the room (Silent hill 4)
I was not even able to complete it because it was just too scary for me.

Silent Hill 1 is the scariest game I have completed.
Silent Hill 2 and 3 were less scary.
Silent Hill 3 was even cheap and stupid.

I think SH2 and 3 were more generally disturbing when the implications of the imagery are better understood.
FEAR was great for the actual anxious experience whilst playing and the jumpscare momments were well timed in my opinion.

Scratches was nicely atmospheric, not so much as Amnesia, but in those cases, neither really seemed to take that atmosphere beyond a basic level that was well established by halfway through.

Otherwise, no other games really seem to be anywhere near the mark - then again, can't say I've played a great deal of suppsoedly scary games.

Did you know the devs suffered nightmares during production of the games, silent hill back in the day when i was a kid was the scariest ♥♥♥♥ ever.
