why is crysis 3 not on steam?

Because EA is such a large company that they can make their own platform where they can sell games, rather than use Steam where Valve takes 1/3 of the sales money for themselves.

Those were probably released before Origin was a thing.

No, the real reason is that Valve started to have issues with EA .. or viseversa, from what I remember is that EA blamed the restrictive terms of service, Gaben was like ahhh nah "I don't know what they mean by that", as usual. I'm pretty sure Valve is there to blame.

After all EA started to pull their own games off the store, starting with Crysis 2 and Dragon Age 2. Battlefield 3 was meant to be on Steam aswell, but never appeared unfortunately.
