Anyone else think Life Simulations are underrated?
It seems like everyone thinks The Sims represents all life simulations. I think a better Life Simulation is Alter Ego. The DOS game, not the new one. Or raising simulators like Princess Maker and Long Live The Queen.

Personally, every life simulator I've played aside from The Sims bored me to tears.
They aren't underrated, just niche.

^This. Also, I've yet to find a title that can match the original Sims and Sims 2 in the perfect level of weird Maxis-level humor and maturity. Sims 3 doesn't compare and the Sims 4 definitely doesn't compare (doesn't even feel like a Sims game at that point).

I wouldn't really call Princess Maker or Long Live the Queen life simulators either, but maybe thats just me.

Princess Maker and Long Live The Queen are technically Raising Simulators. I love The Sims 2, best Sims game ever in my opinion, but I just need some variety.

Not necessarily underrated but they certainly apply to a niche market. For example, the raising simulators you mentioned would only be applicable or interesting to men or women with a paternal or maternal instinct. Of course, games and literature have shown us that women long to be adventurous as men and there is now less stigma surrounding a female adventuress or heroine.

Many people play videogames to escape the realities of everyday life and to venture into periods of time or imagination that they could not otherwise experience. Fighting historic battles of wars or being part of an Assassin of a sacred Hashishin order is more appealing and venturous to the majority of people and that's why those games have greater appeal in comparison to raising a family or maintaining a digital relationship.
