My mom is a jeweler who talks with her friends about getting 10,000 followers on Instagram and her "100 day daily painting" and a bunch of other ♥♥♥♥ like that. She's completely against me playing videogames and much less "violent videogames" because they make me "antisocial" and/or "badly influenced", and thinks I'm going to shoot up the school if I get an airsoft gun. Right now she's making me have my computer set up in my living room. She says i need to have it in a more central part of the house so I don't become a social outcast while she hides away in her studio all day blogging about "women's voices being heard in this new society". My dad thinks it will give me cancer and make me kill myself, and he's an overworked Asian guy who's 5 '3 and knows jiu jiutsu so I don't know if it's even possible for me to convince them to let me have it in my room at all. But they are both pretty reasonable and if I give them a good enough argument I could pull it off. I've already shown them studies of solid proof that pvideogames/computers don't make you antisocial or more violent, and having it your room doesn't give you cancer. If I could get some help I would be really grateful.

34 years of experience has taught me that parents really are no different from anyone else: fallible, stubborn, and sometimes they actually are stupid even if they're smart the other times. Nonetheless, as they pay your bills they have authority over you unless you care to overpower them with your will.

Well that screws up your privacy. Hang in there until you can get away from people controlling you. ...or get a laptop they don't know you have and be aware if they are tech savvy enough to check what devices access the router. ...just actually have a f2f social life with people, too.

as for the OP, put up with it until you are old enough to make your own decisions (and pay your own bills), or just find another hobby/past time.

My only source of income is my parents, and it would take a long while to have enough for a computer.
