Seriously what are the chances.
Dust: An Elysian Tail - Very beautiful, very enjoyable game, and the controls are really good.
Hollow Knight - Think of Dark Souls/Demon's Souls meets Castlevania SOTN. It is highly noted for having very accurate controls, and what is even better is that the game has gotten a good bit of free content updates after it was released.
Axiom Verge - It is more like a Super Metroid clone, but still helps cure that Metroidvania itch.
Rogue Legacy - I know you said no perma-death games. However this game treats death more like The Binding of Isaac where you keep what you unlock, and defeted bosses also stay dead between runs. When you die you will keep the collected gold, and equipment unlocks for the shops. Thus allowing you to use gold to upgrade stats, gain new classes, and have better gear. You can even unlock the ability to spend gold to lockdown the castle to keep it from changing between runs. In otherwords death equals progress.
Ori and the Blind Forest: Definitive Edition - Another beautiful looking game with great music, solid controls, good story, and just all around a fun game.

And also, obligatory mention of Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night[505games.com], which is being made by a devteam directed by the guy who directed CvSotN. (No Steam presence yet, but its companion game Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon[curseofthemoon.com] does have a Steam release.)
