Wreckfest's secret ace is it's RoMu physics engine, which is a full sim-racing engine converted to run arcade physics. The handling and driving dynamics are remarkable. Although it's very much an arcade racer, you get all the feel and detail of a sim. It's a great combination - you can hurl a car around like you would in Burnout, while getting all the nuance and 'feel' of Project CARS or DiRT. And it's for that reason that I recommend it - the brilliant physics make it a joy to drive. Even against the homicidal AI.
They're not really comparable in any way. Project CARS is a simulator with a realistic & hardcore depiction of real motorsport, Wreckfest is kinda the opposite of that. It's a silly and often comedic game about Folk Racing, with no realism whatsoever.
The Cew 2 I'm also debating to get. I did enjoy the first one as everybody hated it. I played the Closed and Open Beta's, I also enjoy it as well. What's holding me back about it is if its even worth full price with enough content.
And I didn't buy The Crew 2 after reading the reviews and watching gameplay. It looked so damn boring.
The Crew 2 is excessively light on content and there's zero reason to explore which is a major selling point in open world racing games.
It's a mile wide but an inch deep. It has an enormous open world map with absolutely nothing in it, and the racing and handling are so bad that you'll never want to drive around and explore it. It's a tech demo, not a game.
