And then there's fourth wall breaks like the ones in Hotline Miami which aren't really comedic and instead add to the themes of the games.
I prefer fourth wall breaks where the characters kind of play around with the idea that they're in a TV show/movie, like your example. Chowder has LOADS of clever fourth wall breaks. My favourite is the episode where they ran out of money and Mung says "no money means no animation" and then it becomes a live action scene of the voice actors washing cars and raising money to bring the animation back. That was glorious.
I don't have a favorite, but the shows which I think do it pretty well are The Grimm Adventures of Billy & Mandy, Chowder, and Dave the Barbarian
My favorite is probably Postal 2, when you get arrested the main character said: "Ey it's not my fault, it's the kid with the keyboard"
