Im not.. i was making a Civ 5 joke. Actually it's the other way around, i made this thread because i'm American.
I've seen the nightlife in Japan on YouTube. I don't know why you would want to be in Japan at a karaoke bar.
Ignore the Japan part, Why would you want to be in a karaoke bar at all.
It carries the connotation of japanese animation style and the general strangeness of japan to westerm cultures. Thus it is used in that context and not others where japanese is meant Ex: "USSR stronk remove suishi(japanese)".
So in summary anime is a vague term with no solid definition. Not to mention if it acctualy does there is about 0 chance we will arive a meaningfull conclusion on steam off topic.
generally people mean cartoons that come from japan or have the other anime characteristics like the drawing style (the new maya the bee series is 100% anime for example , not a cartoon)
We wouldn't call Manga, Comics. It still technically is though but Manga is basically Japanese Comics. And we wouldn't call Comics, American Manga, wouldn't we? Lol.
and Japanese dub.
Actually, Amerimanga is a real term.
Some people don't like it because of "discrimintion". I find it better than just calling it comics, at least the term recognizes it as a subgenre.
