What qualifies as Anime?
Can non-Japanese animation made in the style of Japanese anime be considered anime? Alot of these "non Japanese anime" are considered cartoons, but are considered anime by other people. If you do consider non-Japanese animation as anime, what makes it anime? Is it "I will know when i see it" ? Or maybe it counts as anime if it follows the same style.

What are your thoughts?

Good Times though!

I've seen the nightlife in Japan on YouTube. I don't know why you would want to be in Japan at a karaoke bar.

I guess you wont know until you try it.. Its a lot more fun to be there.. You can't experience life thru YouTube and say you've done it... Seeing it on your computer screen is not like really experiencing it. Just viewing a slice of it...

Anime is japanese cartoons. So

If its not created, at least in some small part in japan it is fake anime aka not anime. And only the uneducated or the unhonorable would call it anime.

Anime in essence is a cachall phrase for japanese. As in, "those plushes look realy anime(japanese)" , "i dont speak anime(japanese)" , that drawing is anime(japanese) as ♥♥♥♥.
It carries the connotation of japanese animation style and the general strangeness of japan to westerm cultures. Thus it is used in that context and not others where japanese is meant Ex: "USSR stronk remove suishi(japanese)".

So in summary anime is a vague term with no solid definition. Not to mention if it acctualy does there is about 0 chance we will arive a meaningfull conclusion on steam off topic.

by definition , Anime has to be an animation ( since anime is short for animēshon)
generally people mean cartoons that come from japan or have the other anime characteristics like the drawing style (the new maya the bee series is 100% anime for example , not a cartoon)

If it's made in Japan then it's anime. There are a lot of American Anime-Style Cartoons like "The Boondocks".

We wouldn't call Manga, Comics. It still technically is though but Manga is basically Japanese Comics. And we wouldn't call Comics, American Manga, wouldn't we? Lol.
Simply looking at the artstyle.
and Japanese dub.

Actually, Amerimanga is a real term.

Some people don't like it because of "discrimintion". I find it better than just calling it comics, at least the term recognizes it as a subgenre.
