Instagram
I was out the other night and my friend made an instagram account for me.

I'm not being cynical, and I don't I want to judge others for what they want to do. This isn't a serious matter at all, but I'm just interested as to why it works so well, why so many people use it.

Here's my thoughts on it. I feel as if people like and follow each other in order to get more attention for themselves. It's like a never ending cycle of attention seeking, with no real interest in others, where everyone follows you in the hopes that you will follow them, and people spend more time doing their own thing and mostly liking photos from people who are more successful than they are, or who they want to keep as their own followers, so that maybe they would give you a little bit of that attention, and maybe stay relevant.

Some people post on it daily, some multiple times, and I don't know why. I know I'm getting old, but most of the people I know on there are older than me.

Is there really more to it than this? And I'd like some positive feedback rather than agreement with me, since I don't need to reinforce my belief, I need to understand whether there is something else to it that I'm not getting.

And if this is the case, I unintentionally feel like an an "edgy" guy fighting the system when I don't really get the point, whereas I see the people who use it anxiously trying to attain something that will never get, since "it" is so ambiguous and even if "it" happens on a moderate level, what will they actually gain?

I was at a Christmas party last year, where people sat down, they hadn't seen each other in ages, and they ate, and talked a little, and then it eventually ended up in an Instagram frenzy where no one spoke to each other for the longest time, they took photos of their food and themselves, making sure that as little of the place (which was not that glamorous) was seen, filters were used, they took photo after photo, but only one picture with all of them in it, and then they went on to post these photos and I was sitting there like what the hell is going on, because I don't have instagram, and I've never really seen a need for it. I have facebook to keep in contact with people, but I never really post anything on it.

I can understand twitter, though I never use it. I can understand facebook though I mainly use it for communication with friends. But instagram, I just don't get. Nothing on it is real. I know these people, in real life, some of them are depressed out of their ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ minds but their pictures glitter like gold. I feel dirty now that I have it, and I want to delete it, but now that half my friends have followed me I feel it's too late for a graceful exit :D I'll just have to abandon it for a long time, and then leave so no one will notice, though in my wild imagination if someone leaves or stops following you, you get anxious and want to find out who it was and why they would do such a thing :D

It depends on how you use it, really. There's different types of people on IG. You have your fake "models", who mostly likely have an alt account, also known as a Finsta, so they can post pictures that don't correlate the theme of their main account. These models are also known for using apps to gain fake followers. You have your memers, such as NoChill or HoodClips. You have your artists, who posts images and videos of their creations. You have your average Joe, who posts pictures and videos every once in awhile, especially during special occasions. You have your selfie Steve, who posts daily selfies. You have your animal lover, who has an entire account dedicated to their pets. You have your YouTubers and celebrities, who use IG as another platform to promote their work. And then you have your ghosters, people who made an IG just to follow people, so they can catch up on other peoples' lives and/or memes. Chances are, they still have the default profile picture.

The only type of IG people I dislike are your models. One of friends fall underneath this category, and it's sickening how much she cares about followers. 15k followers, but you can tell the majority of her followers are fake. She either used an app or bought them

I had an Instagram account when I was younger but I've deleted it. It kinda is pointless looking through photos of other people's lives, which in turn makes you feel a little inferior/depressed when you see them go on lavish holidays or having a great time.

Deleting my Instagram account taught me to not compare my life with others, and to focus on improving myself. I'm not jealous, really, just that I feel the time spent looking through Instagram is time that could've been used to make improve and make yourself feel better.

30 minutes of Instagram? Why not 30 minutes of preparing your own lunch?

Yeah this makes sense. If you have a themed account for memes or something, I could go for something like that. I have memedroid so that sort of gives me the fix for that. And watching talented people do whatever they are good at seems legit as well. I've always felt bad about posting things I do, even if special occations like playing gigs or doing something awesome or funny, so I guess it's just me then. I think the people who are there will know, and maybe I'm trying to avoid the feeling that everything I do has to matter to everyone, when I'm wanting to feel that I'm the most important part of my life, not in a selfish way, but in a way where if I find a relaxing moment, I can share it by myself and not everyone has to know about it to make it meaningful. Basically I can have fun by myself for no other purpose than to experience it, even though I might lose that experience when I die lol.

I'll look into some of these things on it and see whether I find something I'll enjoy. I do need more non-political, non-thought provoking material to look at whilst I travel etc. Thanks for the reply :)
i hate instagram banned alll my accounts
