also scissors are essentially duller sword blades and tinier, so a bigger size, and probably sharper too would be actually pretty useful unless someone pulls out a rock
then you're ♥♥♥♥♥♥
a large scissor? whaaaat? do you wanna cut opponent's hair while in combat?
if you sharpen them you may actually cause some damage, especially bigger ones that take 2 hands to use. Plus you can probably catch swords, grasp them, maybe cut them in half then go in for the kill
Would they be effective against a sword in a fight? Depends. If the swordfighter is the average gamer or renaissance fair visitor - probably. Thacking and stabbing blindly at one another makes the outcome of the fight a matter of luck, not weaponry. Against someone who trained some technique of swordfighting (and with that I mean take training, not repeating moves once seen) not a snowballs chance in hell.
Not the Scissorman...
MMM-SCISSORMAN!
There's actually a major difference in how they're constructed.
Scissors aren't strong enough to survive combat, let alone sharp enough to kill somebody. A sword-sized pair of scissors would probably be too heavy to lift.
There's actually a lot of science in a sword blade. They're made from a very specific type of steel alloy, which is both very light and somewhat flexible. This is to stop it shattering when it hits something. Scissors are made of whatever low-grade steel was available, and would probably break on a hard impact.
