Game Banana I would say avoid on principle. If you have to ask whether something is safe or not, that's usually an indication that it's not.
Some authors of modifications there are not trusted and may attach malicious files in their downloads.
Use an anti-virus software just to be cautious.

ONLY modifications to a game's core executable files and dynamic link libraries will result in a VAC ban.
Games like CS:GO do not allow you to use skin-changers as those will indefinitely result in a VAC ban.
It is best to clarify this with the game's developer; but we know that in CS:GO, it is not allowed.
