Does anyone else find Fortnite to be trash just because of the whole building mechanic?
Like I understand it's what "makes it different from other Battle Royale games", but...there's surely something better that can be done than building. I like my shooting games to be gun on gun, you're done, and in Fortnite, the whole building mechanic just ♥♥♥♥♥ on it all. It's not about gun skill, it's mostly about who can build the quickest and most efficiently to get an unfair advantage (either by height or head glitching). It just pisses me off when someone comes from out of no where just because they built their way to me, instead of having to actually traverse around things without being seen or heard, and getting an actual proper and fair flank on me and then whoever has the most skill with aiming and shooting wins.

The early game is fun, not many people have the materials to build, and it relies heavily on who can shoot the guns better and land their shots. By mid-game...it went to ♥♥♥♥, and late game is just a camping head glitch snooze fest inside your stupid ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ base.

Also don't even get me started on the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ of shooting someone or at someone and then they just instantly build cover. Like no, you got caught out in the open because you're being wreckless and stupid, take your damn death and go.

Truthfully, Fortnite BR is my least favorite BR game of all the ones I've played.

In rankings it'd go like this.

1. PUBG
2. The Culling (really early development Culling, y'know, when it was still great.)
3. H1Z1.
4. Fortnite BR

I know I'm in the great minority when it comes to this, and I'm sure fanboys will attack me for having my opinion, but in my honest opinion, Fortnite is absolute trash just because of being able to build.

It's complete garbage, the idea is nice, where you're supposed to build a fort or to reinforce an area to protect yourself while you scavenge and stuff or build a base to hold out in when the storm closes in. But 9 times out of 10 the building mechanic is abused to be a form of invincibility.

Oh I'm getting sniped at, just instabuild a wall that will take 4 shots + to break.

I'm getting shot at with a high rof machinegun, build a wall instantly that will take more than half the clip of that smg to break.

Someone is lobbing grenades at me, build a wall in front of me instantly to block the damage from it.

Somebody is tryi- Build a wall.

I ne- BUILD A WALL.

It's ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ridiculous and just ruins the experience because it becomes a game, not of skill and your ability to aim, but a game of who can out cheese the other person with a cheap, not well thought out mechanic.

Because here is the thing, everyone defends the building mechanics as "part of the game so don't complain scrub" Once you realize those mechanics were created soely for the real game, which is the zombie wave survival game. You begin to realize that these mechanics are broken in a battle royale setting.

oho yeah, thx for the necro, dumbo
Nah, I find it trash because Battle Royale is trash :cinnamon2:
If it wasn't meant to be necroed, it should be locked. Just saying.
Truthfully I don't mind that it was necroed. Keep discussing, mates.
Honestly, if they removed or tweaked the ability to build in the battle royale version of the game, it would be a non-issue. It was not made for that mode in any way shape or form. It's already bad enough that an actual game meta is jumping constantly with shotguns and randomly hoping to hit someone while face-smashing, the other being build walls when being shot.

When it comes to the battle-royale genre, I believe one where aiming is crucial and also being mindful of how exposed you are both exceedingly important. Fortnite throws away these concepts and pisses on them with the build mechanic.

get shot at, immediately pull a tower out of your ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ and sit on top of it and hope for the best is what it really is.
Either increasing the build time, or reducing the JUST PLACED wall's health to miniscule ammounts would be ideal. In that way, panic building is not viable, but having a base to defend from or to reinforce an area given you had a little bit of time to actually set it up is still possible.

That would be a fair compromise, but as of now, it is too viable to just "Hit F-keys for invincibility"

Detractors would say "but that would get rid of what makes the game what it is and no one would care anymore" ♥♥♥♥♥, it's a free to play Battle Royale game with cartoonish graphics. I'm sure it would survive without the gimmick.

I agree, I have tried most other BR games & they're all more fun to me. Also, the game's art style is annoying to me, it takes out a lot of immersion but I get that it appeals to some.
I like the destructible buildings at the start, which I wish more shooters did with most buildings.
I made a new friend on a normal RTS last week & I forget what got us on the topic of fortnite, but I was surprised to hear him say "ugh yeah I hate fortnite, especially that stupid building thing!" I was thinking "oh wow, I'm adding this guy as a friend, he shares opinions he knows many disagree with & doesn't fear being hated for it. That's respectable."

What kinda seriously ticks me off about fortnite is that other games that could flourish die easily since so many people are too busy playing fortnite all the time they can play. So MMORPGS have fewer players, RTS have less of a chance, multiplayer is just really meh in most games compared to the past.

I also don't even like BRs much anyway, I only tried fortnite at all because I couldn't find many RTS games with any multiplayer presence left. I mean I like to spawn into a match, have 2 weapons, or even maybe have some extra weapons on the ground that surpass inferior starting equips, then you fight & respawns if you die until time's up or whatever.
But in BR games, it's so filled with RNG. I mean I'll look here for a weapon... oh, it's just a wimpy weapon *insta killed* & then I'm back at the lobby. How fun? If the map were bigger, you started with a gun, players couldn't follow you to exactly where you dropped to kill you (that happens in every BR I've tried) & other stuff, then maybe I'd like BR.

But as for now I like RTS instead. Timesplitters, that was a fun game. Halo used to be fun. Titanfall was fun, wish it still had a active playerbase. It's basically just cod (hate it, but not as much as fortnite) that's left & pretty much any shooter will have microtransactions which are just an immediate NO for me if not just cosmetic (but you know many cosmetic only turn into lies anyway) since I'm disabled & disabled people get next to nothing. I calculated my expenses for medications I absolutely need or I'd die, cheap food, doctor appointments, internet, cell, water, & any other bills... turns out if I didn't have my family to help, I'd actually die from starvation or from lack of medication since I'd have to choose 1 or the other. That's messed up, & they don't care if your family dies & you can't pay for what you need just to live. Many have died while on Medicaid & SSI like me but had no family to help.

But those teens & the squeaky kids want all kinds of money from parents to blow on microtransactions & aren't at all thankful.
So fortnite, hate it. The game is free & only cosmetics cost money, that's all I find good about it. I don't care how my character looks. As far as other games like RTS that I DO like, they're getting filled with microtransactions just to play as well as someone who has money to buy upgraded stuff. That's terrible & it is just another place in life where those with money can enjoy things while those who are poor don't. I'd buy a $100 game if it meant there wouldn't be any microtransactions ever.

So to recap after my rant;
Building is stupid.
Graphics break immersion.
Massive playerbase eats up other game's.
BR is annoying for many reasons.
Any microtransactions are so bad.
Anything I forgot to mention that I hate about fortnite I left out because I'm tired, it's 3am here & I need to sleep despite having no job anymore or legally being able to work now.

We play games to what? Get out of the boring real world. But getting killed due to building & random gear, microtransactions when you can't even work, glitches that they can afford to fix, dumb decisions, etc all kill immersion & in battle royal you don't respawn, you're just watching others "have fun" or in the lobby looking for a new match. Apex had respawn to an extent but fortnite copied it & Apex, despite being better to me is basically saying, though it doesn't seem like it if you look for a match since it almost instantly finds people far faster than fortnite. So I don't see any battle royals overcoming fortnite, though I'd love to hear fortnite died or just lost half it's players so people would suddenly fill up the multiplayer if other games.

Imagine typing out the equivalent to 2 pages of a book without realizing you're necro'ing a year old thread

Idk, the concept of Necroing threads is stupid anyway. Oh yeah let's just clutter up the discussions with another thread about the same thing rather than using the existing thread no matter how old it is.

If someone can scroll back that far or the thread hasn't moved much from the first page, it deserves to get necro'd It's the more practical, pragmatic thing to do anyway
