Man convicted over a joke.
I'm unsure if this counts as a political discussion, if it does, my bad.

So, if nobody here knows the story of Count Dankula, he's the guy who trained his girlfriends dog to be a Nazi to mess with her.

Well, he's now officially been convicted for the crime of being "grossly offensive" in the UK.
Thoughts? Personally, I think this is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ridiculous.

This would be a real reason for people to protest, before they start throwing everyone in prison for telling bad jokes.

The ECHR has been lenient on criminals more often than not. in the UK our prisons are holiday camps. I have always had the hope that when the UK can seperate itself from the control of europe, we can turn those holiday camps back into basic facilities that will encourage no more offending, in addition to using the prisoners for an assortment of tedious work assignments that get them thinking about being good, getting out and staying out.

a hate crime is a hate crime. there is usually a dim view on that type of behavior because the UK is more multi-cultural these days. so showing any favoritism would deeply offend many who come here to get away from their previous lives in other countries where these types of things are common.

I'm not saying I absolutely support it, just it's understandable he'd be convicted for it. I didn't know the girl supported it, so that alters my perspective a bit. Thing is, we also have to account for the dog, manipulating a dog, a living animal to do something that it's ower didn't even want, there's something to be said about that. Still, people have done far worse things.

It was a deliberate and stupid act, regardless if the girlfriend supported the action or not. The dog if showered with enough love and attention can be easily manipulated into acting a certain way, but it's not something that can be done in a few days or weeks, but consider that it took months or years to imprint on the dog what the owner wanted off the dog at the time.

based on that, there is no getting around it, it was deliberate.

Man convicted for breaking the law.

Hopefully it’s not news to anyone that “it’s a joke” is not some magic spell that means you’re not responsible for your actions.

While on the stand, his girlfriend stated that the dog would react like that when you said pretty much anything to it.

We arn't debating wether it is a crime under UK law. we are saying that UK law is rediculous and orwellian. Honestly i doubt he is acctualy causing any harm with this admitedly bad joke. yet he is still getting penalties for it. i also think its quite rediculous

for my understanding he just used the joke part as a excuse afterall he painted a fashist sign on a animal that was not his with no acceptens from his gf.
It wasn't an excuse, he clarified from the beginning he wanted to prank his girlfriend, and considering the fact that she's been with him throughout the incident, she isn't too upset.

i see, but then again why even doing so is byond my understanding.
especially the amount of hate crimes going on in UK since brexit.

you can only know of that if you understood a little about how the criminals in the UK get charged and how some of us in the UK have to put up with this on a daily basis. And as for not causing harm? well the fact it was posted on YT is a hard one to explain away by itself.

Since it is impossible to seperate the crime from the bad action, i will get off the train here.

please explain to me what i am missing, and what this thing that you deal with on a daily basis is. From a foregn standpoint i have little to no idea what you are talking about.

We've essentially had our fourth amendment rights stripped away in the USA so I can't chastise other countries for their ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up laws.

That said, perhaps he should have kept his little prank within that circle.

I'm unsure about what you're trying to imply here. Elaborate for me.

The funny thing about that video that I just watched is the dog watching the video. It could be watching any video but it's funny. Triumph of the Will is an interesting video, just like all history from that time period is interesting, but the way the dog is watching is funny. The words the dog owner is using is quite tasteless for a joke, of course, but words are words.

private services may deny you service based on what you say. it makes sence if you think about it. why would a private service be required to do something for you when you are being an ass to them.

Dogs are far more intelligent than they're given credit for. Do you really believe we're the ones walking them? Training them? Who picks up after whom?
we definitely pick up their poop

apparently

censoring ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ is reasonable, but ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ being censored is just unreasonable tbh
