I would imagine it's just a regular code activation like software you can download for free but then to get higher levels of service you have to pay.

of course I haven't seen that for a very long time. I think the last time I actually had to use it was WinRAR.

Highly recommend updating and running a full scan of your PC with an anti-malware scanner, such as SpyBot, MalwareBytes, or Kaspersky.
