Mark Hamill was the very best joker. He is iconic.

I did really prefer Heath ledger's joker. He wasn't just crazy. He was incredibly dangerous. There's a certain level of dread you have when you see him about to do something.

Of course Cesar Romero is pretty good. He was very much in the vein of the silver age joker. Weird and maniacal.

Leto always seemed like he was trying too hard.
Heath embodies the primal anarchist tendencies of the Joker
Nicholson embodies the gangster/crime boss aspects of the Joker
Phoenix embodies the tragic aspects of the Joker
Hamill is the voice. No one else can really pin that laugh down.

I don't really have an opinion on the other Jokers.

Nicholson was fine too, but he was too... grotesque (?), too much of a comic book character, for me. Ledger was more real, scarier, more brutal.
