I got rid of my smartphone
2 years ago and now I began to understand it was maybe the best decision I`ve ever made

Next step is getting rid of internet as crazy as it sounds.
Anyone else?

old style flip phones are better anyway
I like how before people would buy every piece of technology because it was trendy, and now everyone is throwing that technology away because doing so now is apparently trendy.

Idiots.

I mean...I was fully unplugged in 2008 I guess. Unless you mean even no fridge or electricity.

If I had an absolute issue I went to the library for thier internet. or a friend's internet.

A lot of places still had paper applications back then too. You could pay someone to do your taxes. My only phone is a still a home old fashioned phone.

I do think its getting closer to impossible though to go 100% unplugged. And certainly you'll have to pick your career carefully.

throw away your smartphone all you want but you should at least have a flip phone to call 911 etc.
So announcing you don't like something in a forum thread is proporganda?
I'll remind you of that if I catch you go around posting your opinion. :steamfacepalm:

I was referring to the video mate
i ltierally said throw away your smartphone all you want
The problem isn't the tech itself but rather how people use it. Smartphones and the internet can be very powerful and useful tools however I understand that it can be very toxic. I would not reccomend cutting yourself off completely from the net but rather just social media (except us here on off topic of course)
Why would I impose more restrictions on myself? The only thing I'm addicted to is life itself.
You too can give up your phone... just replace it with a pack of smokes and start smoking anytime you feel the urge to text/social media on phone.

Good job not actually answering the question
so your steam account is protected by what authenticator?
Oh, how ironic this thread is! A large bit of anti-electronics (anti-progress, in my opinion) propaganda on an electronic platform.

Mmm, I love the smell of irony in the morning.

The amount of hypocrisy from certain people here is stupid.

>Tells other people to stop spending so much time online
>Is online most of the time themselves

Pot, meet kettle.
Eeeehhh I've always felt like just taking that stuff away isn't the best way to handle that type of problem with how useful they all are. Seems more practical to just learn how to control use of it more. All power to you regardless though, pretty difficult thing to do these days.
Scaremongering aside, the modern Smartphone packs so much Personal Identifying Information that police now need a warrant to unlock and search one, so I totally get ditching one. For the most part, I only use mine for social media as it keeps me in touch with my favorite artists and my commute to/from University is packed with downtime. As for the Steam Authenticator, they could just have a tablet or iPod-like with Steam on it, and just keep it at home to respond to the Steamguard stuff. Maybe they don't even use most of the Steamguard features.
so your steam account is protected by what authenticator?

it matters little really. if a hacker really wanted to get into thousands of accounts they would find other means to do so that doesn't require battling an authenticator or the steamguard. Valve knows this far too well as there are recorded cases in the past where hackers have gotten past Valve's security on steam.

The one who original made that comment didn't answer the question either, he/she said why they should limit themselves which isn't an answer to the question if you got rid of the smartphone. but your position is even less valid and so is mine as we are adding nothing to this debate.

one of the primary reasons why i never went out looking for one of these devices. without a way to delete all that history including off the servers of the phone company, it is a magnet for anyone looking to get details on you despite the data protection laws.
