Well have you seen how chill were the usenet days compared to the current internet? Nowadays the Enshittification has reached everywhere (albeit not critical mass yet, that will be AI collateral damage), the naive will get scammed or worse, the gullible will get manipulated or worse, the idealist will get vibe checked or worse, etc.
Everyone can play with their cards in whichever way they think is correct, whenever or not there might be "side-effects" its a whole different can of worms. The funny part is, we ain't seeing nothing yet, AI / bots will make everything far more "interesting times" going forward

Edit: Also not even the worst case scenario lol, it's the "to be expected" scenario given the current internet, at least in the english speaking general sector of it, such is life. In other places it might actually be more chill like the usenet days, that would be my hunch.

Like remember they old puck mice from Apple Computers? The huge clear plastic coloured mice that were so uncomfortable to use, and that damn click action was stinky man. Naw of course none of u don't remember that.

think about the freedom to die I might've been able to gain if I was conscious to make a decision about sabotaging the ship's reactor fully, or trying to repair it and likely blowing the ship up. in essence, my being unconscious for that decision is the very definition of my life.

Man the mice in ma school never worked half the time because people would take the rubber ball out to throw. Same with the damn beaters for like glockenspiels and xylophones, no ball on the end on them because people just chucked them around the class or in corridors, a wanted to play some Jazz glockenspiel but naw man.
