Brutal Doom and other mods
So a lomg time ago I downloaded Brutal Doom and have been playing it. But I noticed there are many other versions of Brutal Doom most recently Brutal Doom v20. I downloaded it from the website but I can't remember how to run it. I have GZDoom which I am using to run my regular version of Brutal Doom. I found out that I have the Hell On Earth Starter Pack but a version I've seen online is basically Doom 2 with Brutal Doom update. I have Doom 2 but when I downloaded the V20 version I just got a bunch of files when I opend it after the download. The only Application file just said "zdoom", and when I opened it it just went to regular Doom 2. So If I want to download a new version of Brutal Doom (preferably the one that uses the Doom 2 wads) or if I want to download any other Doom mods like "Unloved or Happy Time Circus" How do I do it? Please give step-by-step instructions. I already have GZdoom.

First download ZDL 3.2.2.2 from here: https://zdoom.org/wiki/ZDL That is a program that works as both a launcher, and mod manager for all Doom engine wads. Just extract ZDL into it's own folder, and then run it.

After launching ZDL you will need to go to the settings tab. Once in the settings tab you will see two sections Source Ports/Engines, and IWADS.

Lets forcus on the Source Ports first. Under the blank listings for source ports you will see the add button. Click on the add button to get the add source ports window, and then click the browse button. Now in the search window find where you have GZDoom.exe, select it, and then click the open button. The search window will close, and you can now set a name to the source port in the add source port window. After that just click ok, and now GZDoom is listed in ZDL.

Next click on the add button under the IWADs section. This is the same thing as before with the source ports only this time look for offical doom engine wads. In this case look for where you have Doom2.wad, and add it to the list. When you are done you can add other main doom engine wads to the list, or go back to the main tab.

Now on the main tab and under the External Files list click on the add button. You will now get a new search window that will allow you to look for any of the supported mod files you wish to play with. So in this case look for the brutal doom v20.pk3 file, and add it to the list. Note that you can add more then one mod to this list as long as they don't conflict with each other.

If you wish to play custom maps like the hell on earth starter pack look for the wad file, and just add it to the External Files list. This will allow you to play brutal doom with the starter pack maps.

Now you are almost done, and thus come the easy parts.

Under the main tab look for source port drop down list, and select GZDoom.

On the main tab under the IWADs list just click on Doom 2 so it will be selected as the wad you wish to play with.

Finally click on the launch button, and now you will see a window show up loading GZDoom with the mods together. You should now be able to play Brutal Doom. Just remember you will need to set any key binding you wish to use in the games options menu.

I clicked on the link you gave me and it took me to the wikipidia page. On the page I found the link to the official website but the website is not working. Now I am already playing Brutal Doom Starter Pack and I did manage to download Unloved and open it with GZDoom except the only way it seems to work is by dragging the Unloved pk3 file to the GZDoom Icon and it opens with a list off my Doom games. I click on Doom 2 Hell On Earth and it opens Unloved. However at first it opened in windowed mode but I tweked the notepad file by changing fullscreen from false to true. But the other problem is there is no sound. Only 1 sound option in the menu worked but it only played music, there were no sound effects. So it seems i'm able to play the games but they still have issues. Is there a fix for the sound problem? Again, the ZDL site is not working. It says the server IP address could not be found.

I just checked, and I can still get ZDL from the github page. I'll try to use a direct link to the download to see if that works.

ZDL: https://github.com/qbasicer/qzdl/releases/download/v3.2.2.2-stable/ZDL-3.2.2.2-stable.zip

As for the other issues you may need to download an updated version of GZDoom. Just note that updating to GZDoom v3+ will require you to use Brutal Doom v20b R, or Brutal Doom V21 Beta.

GZDoom: https://zdoom.org/downloads

Brutal Doom V20b R: http://www.moddb.com/mods/brutal-doom/downloads/brutal-doom-v20b-r-gzdoom-300-ver

Brutal Doom V21 Beta: http://www.moddb.com/mods/brutal-doom/downloads/brutal-doom-v21-beta

Hope this helps.
