For singleplayer games, if you're having difficulty with something, just stay positive and keep trying - you will figure it out, regardless of how many tries it takes. And if that doesn't work for you, then just take a break from it. You'd be surprised how many repeated failures you can go through, and then coming back to something after even a short break, you get it right the first time. (I had this occur to me while fighting Ornstein and Smough in Dark Souls 1, for the first time. After about 8 consecutive deaths, I stopped playing. The next morning I got onto the game, and immediately beat them on my first go.)
That's what helps me.
Thank you, this was a really great answer. Yeah, for the most part, it seems as though I get more frustrated when playing multiplayer games. I'm not a big fan of cooperative play, but my boyfriend is, so I do end up playing a lot of these kind of games.
Multiplayer is a bit trickier. I have a very friendly demeanor during multiplayer matches. I laugh at other people's jokes, I talk to them, I at least try to be a good team player, and so hardly anyone is ever offended.
When something truly unbelievable happens (I got shot? I died? Obviously, those things NEVER happen) most people will take my little outbursts quite well when they're not outright laughing. However, if I do offend people I'm usually very quick to apologize and explain that I don't mean the vast majority of what I say. It's just banter and trash talk to liven up the game a little. Where it still bothers people, I shut up.
A little venting like that can be extremely helpful for keeping actual anger at bay. And as has been said before, stop taking things so seriously. You have to be able to laugh at yourself a little.
Considering I'm a female in my 30's... Ehhhh, unlikely
I'll have to try this, thanks!
