Russia adapted the USSR instrumental in 2000, which is controversial given its dark past, and the fact that Putin is like a dictator.

Auferstanden Aus Ruinen
La Marseillaise
Rule Brittania (well this one isn't a national anthem anymore but I prefer it over God Save the Queen)
thought rule brittania was the actual one
As for my favourite, I'm not quite sure to be honest. Somewhere between Kimigayo (Japan), God Save the Queen (Britain), Advance Australia Fair (Australia), Russia/USSR, Patriotic song (Russia 1991-2000), Wilhelmus (Netherlands), Star Spangled Banner (USA), Germany (1990-present) and any anthem that sounds patriotic.

No. It's more of a patriotic song.

Russian
To be honest, we should change two anthems. 'Risen from Ruins' is more appropriate for modern day Germany given that the anthem they have now has negative connotations in terms of their history (If only Risen wasn't for East Germany).

The anthem Russia has now has dark connotations too in terms of history, and given that Putin has dictator powers now, maybe a new version of 'God Save the Tzar' would suffice for a new president.

The anthem of Russia has been changed after the dissolution of the USSR:

But the old instrumental has since been brought back due to popular demand.

And unless you are a Russian and German citizen, and mean "we" as in "We, the Russian and German people"; then you don't get a say in what the Russian and German anthems should be. How would you feel if some random dude from another country would say something like "We should change the British anthem because 'God save the Queen' sounds too conservative these days, when both religion and monarchy are no longer the be all and end all"?

True...

And I suggested God Save the Tsar, because Patriotic Song did seem boring to Russia...
