Learning Japanese through visual novels and games

Has anyone here tried this?
How did it work out for you?
Are there any programs that identify the various characters or do you search them on your own.
I was thinking of trying out VNs for memorizing kanji.

I tried it with Sonic Adventures series before. But eh I was to distracted by the game to pay attention. But now I tend to learn Japanese from my sister who lives in Japan.

trust me, you dont want to learn a language through video games, that opens you up to relentless mocking, just focus on studying online or take classes

If you want kanji just use flashcards. Anything else is inefficient.

This one seems to be pretty ignorant of it, though.

Oh man.... I can tell you 1 thing about Japanese. Japanese is one of the hardest Languages to learn (maybe Manderian Chinese is harder) espeically when learning Kanji. The grammar structure is different, nouns, verbs, blah blah blah..... it's hard.

If you really wanna learn a language then learn it from a professional or school.

All it takes is time, just use flashcards and you'll memorise them unless you have a bad memory or something

I have an short attention span. Like.... if you tell me directions to go somewhere I will forget it after step 2.
