So i saw comment on YouTube (Oversaturated game genres)

Didn't really remember what it was (and too lazy to go and find it again), but it went the lines of,

why is it that people are really bothered with the battle royale genre being oversaturated? Why aren't they as bothered with the fact that other genres such as FPS games or survival games and such are also oversaturated? Why is it that only the BR genre gets this much attention

Anyways, what are your guys opinion about it?

The battle royal genere is not acctualy that oversaturated. It has however oversaturated media sights like youtube with lots of easy to make content. Perhaps that is what the comment refers to

Yeah it's pretty annoying to go to your youtube and see how it's filled with battle royale related videos, and how they're always making the headlines in terms of gaming news

The reason why BR games are considered oversaturated is because of how quickly they keep being released. It feels like less than 6 months since the last one when a new one comes out. They’ve been released so fast with so much overwhelming hype from the media that they feel stale.

That’s my take on it at least.

I just do not pay much attention to it. I tried Fortnite once got into a battle guy puts up magical wall up in his face instantly and then finds a way to beat me.

That stuff is what was killing a game called Fox Hole to. No one likes to fight people that have the abillity to put up defenses instantly without much of a downside.

I wouldn't necessarily agree that the FPS genre is oversaturated. Sure, there are definitely a lot of FPS games on the market and they dominate it. But the thing is that FPS is a very, very broad genre and entails a lot of things. There are ways that FPS games set themselves apart from one another, at least the ones that try to be different anyway.

FPS is a very broad genre (if you think it isn't, then I would suggest looking outside of COD, Battlefield etc). Survival games have gotten flak for being oversaturated.

Basically it's like when there is too much of something that it lowers the value and interest in the thing. It's like if there is one or two different kinds of cupcakes in the store then people will want to buy them, but if the whole store is filled cupcakes then the profits would be much lower, the losses much higher, and people might get bored with cupcakes and stop buying them completely.

Yes, we were bothered by survival last year and by zombies in 2014-2016. Next year it might be platformers for all we know.
