Advice for playing monks or druids
I've noticed both of these classes are relatively popular. Only question is how do you play them?

I mean both of them don't rely on brute force, at least not in a traditional sense. They're both relatively ancient and primal. It's no picnic to play them either, sometimes. For the druid, the connection with nature seems like it's strength where as the Monk relies on the force of the situation to defeat their enemy, ironically enough. If you ask me druids are probably easier for most people to play since you have nature magic and can use a practical physical weapon, and have the option of wearing more armor (according to D&D monks take an oath not to wear armor at all). I like the simplicity of this, but it's hardly the path of least resistance. If you're fighting a boss, the chances you'll die is almost always there unless you know what you're doing.

Monks: Kick dudes.

Druids: Summon some trees and bears or something.

My favorite class of all is warrior monk. Like Templar. I loved playing those in some old games. Cleric even. I played Warrior/Monk and Monk/Warrior in Guild Wars. I played some games where dodge tanking was a thing. So stacking as much dodge as possible. Teras Kasi master. Like martial arts. Kicks and punches in a game where people use laser guns and light sabers hehe. Good fun anyway. Druid for me is pure healer. Of course you can be in some games animal form, bear, cat, etc. I play Druid as a healer.

Iunno I just like playing a monk in Daggerfall because I get to punch things. I exorcise ghosts with my fists.

druid in diablo 2 can be fun. Moreso in hardcore multiplayer as werewolf with damage spirit lol.

By the way, here is a forum post on Teras Kasi which as I knew it a martial arts style in Star Wars Galaxies.

Lore in games is pretty nice with creative minds behind it.

Most monks have a relatively high HP and high melee combat skills
Just like any other classes, they have their own specialty and counters
Monks with high HP would probably go well agaist magic dealer since most magic dealer would probably have some kind of cooldown (Monks are able to take more dmg and get close to the magic caster)

Druids on the other hand, are mostly a versatile class
They could become a tank (armor) or healer or scout

In real life I believe in Aikido.

So it's about protecting your attacker from harm. Defeating them without injuring them. I really want to master that art.

I never played Diablo 2 untill the expansion, so it was the Druid class I chose.

I created a wind druid, but it was the summons that kept me alive early on. Playing alone without anyone power leveling or speed running.
As for D&D 3.5, here's what I've heard/seen:

* Monks basically need good stats across the board.

* Druids can function as backup healers, especially if your party doesn't have a cleric.
* Druids are useful for summoning things to help flank opponents.
* At higher levels, druids can wildshape.

Monks are a full class, like being a warrior. They will do alot of damage, but need healers.

Druids are hybrids, like a ranger of adventurer. You'll never be the best weapons or the best with spells. But with tactics, you can survive alone.

Not saying a monk couldn't survive alone, without healing potions.

Assuming we can ignore the traditional rules surrounding monks, I know of a couple badass ones that are fun to play as.

https://paladins.gamepedia.com/Jenos

This guy was a monk, but then ascended to the stars while meditating one night. As time passed he acquired insurmountable knowledge from the cosmos and returned to the world as a god with astral powers. In game he's a healer and is capable of maintaining an offensive with a weapon that fires concentrated bolts of astral energy.

https://paladins.gamepedia.com/Buck

Unlike the other monk, Jenos, this guy did not ascend to the stars and gain knowledge from the stars. Rather, he learned how to concentrate through meditation from his time as a monk and turned to life as an underworld thug. In doing so he is effectively able to combine what he has learned as a thug and as a monk into a very unique and robust fighting style. In game he fights with a shotgun that is capable of trapping enemies with a net. He can also heal himself by briefly meditating for a few seconds.

Needless to say, these two monks are certainly not useless and are certainly capable of surviving without the constant assistance of a pocket healer. Yeah, they're both from Paladins... it's kind of the only multiplayer game I've been playing recently. Even though they aren't the traditional RPG-style monk that others have described, I think they still deserve an honorable mention, at the very least.

Right now I'm playing in 5e and running both a monk and a rogue.

By far the monk is the funnest character I think I've ever had, in terms of rolling the dice and kicking butt.

She has *literal magic hands* (at 6th level their unarmed attacks count as magical for things that require magic to do full damage), and at 7th just now, has the "evasion" ability to basically dodge fireballs.

Using Ki points is a joy. Flurry of Blows + Stunning Strike = we just took down a freaking necromancer type in 2 rounds. Since there are now no longer any overall restrictions on knockdown or push or stun (unless the enemy's description specifically includes it) a normal sized character can LITERALLY STUN A DRAGON with one hit and some Ki.

Now, she's a glass cannon - even at 7th level she's got what like 50ish hit points? If that? So I have to rely on really good dex (unarmored bonuses) and running the hell away when I whiff.

But still, Lari the Aarakocra monk is just... totally awesome fun.

I have not played a druid nor do we have one in our group so I'm not overly sure what benefits they have aside from the later shapeshifting abilities which can be completely overpowered.
