I'm actually wondering if you're trolling or not. Like these are two different paths and you still don't know? If you want to stay alive and have normal to higher hours, pick Cyber Security. Being a game developer needs some passion behind it and you don't seem to know what you're actually choosing.

not joking sadly and they both seem very interesting courses.
On the one hand i want to go into cyber security like ethical hacking and defending networks, etc while on the other hand i want to make games but i know that i would have to learn design skills, etc.

Do you need to know programming for both paths? Also which has a more stable job/market & pay?
Neither. Take this from someone who knows better. The sheer boom of et/it users and programmers have exploded in the last 15 years. Follow this path only if guaranteed a posh spot in a government job like a military post. Oherwise that dream of working at (insert game company/making a studio) is just that, a dream.

Do a trade which is in huge demand. That or a profession that yield a more successful hire to fire rate. Do you some research.

There is a huge demand for IT jobs, it's just that a lot of them are very niche or require more skills than an average school can/will teach you.

You could always work in cybersecurity and make games on the side.

If I had to pick one of the two I'd go with cybersecurity. Games development is a minefield.

I was planning to go into cybersecurity. But it also requires a lot of commitment. You'd have to constantly upgrade your knowledge and skills to combat new forms of cyberattacks.

Cybersecurity is the best option here, your life will be easier
Game devs doesn't make that much money really and it ruins your life if you suck at it

Even if you're good at it, if your game isn't original in its story, or fun in its gameplay, it's very hard to turn a profit. Unless you work for one of the AAA companies, but you would need a portfolio since there are so many people competing for those positions.

If you can't make the game as what you wanted, then you're basically bad at it...
Working for a company do assure you a stable pay but that really depends on the company
Two of my family members are in the IT field, I know about this IT stuff as well
Creating stuff is easy task and then suddenly, you found a bug but your tool doesn't equipped with a debugger. You're basically dying if that happens

What if i do cyber security as a major but still study a bit of games dev on the side as a sub major? This way i am still focused on cyber security but i know basics of game dev for like indie work.
security cause internet aint going away and new hackers born every minute

I personally went game developer early on, move onto enjoying web developer/admin, then IT Security Expert. Web is easiest. Game development is hard to get into (a good one that is). Cyber security is an advanced skill too (helps if you are ex-hacker or can at least think like one).

The career market is flooded for being a game developer, so you need to be the best of the best and pot of luck scoring a good job. Also, understand there's a lot of branches - game engine, media, network, 3D modelling, texturing, level designer, etc. You should find what interests you, get a taste first.

Are you a visual person, do you enjoy working in a small or large team, etc?

For Unitec, I went Computer Sciences / Bachelor of Computing.

Then move onto CEH certificate (Certified Ethical Hacker) or Computer Forensics Analysts, etc.

Personally, I’d drop out and learns marketable skill. As others have said, the supply is greater than the demand and you’ll most likely just run up a whole bunch of debt.
