Myope people with glasses, do you have these issues?
Hello everyone, I've been having a lot of issues with my vision in the past two months and I can't find a solution / answer (and doctors can't either), and I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask here, to people who spend a lot of time on a computer like me and want to have a correct image.

So here it is, more than 2 months ago I went to the optician to got my glasses lenses remade (while keeping the frame, and the prescription only changed by 0,25) and my life has been a nightmare since that:
- I have a lot of chromatic aberration, every objets / texts/ lines have blue and orange fringes
- I have crazy barrel distortion effects, everything looks curved, slanted.

It's horrible, it hurt my eyes, it makes me dizzy and I can't appreciate any picture with theses issues.

Here are some examples of what I'm talking about:

My monitor kinda looks like that with my glasses on:

I took the picture through the lens, so it's not exact but it's the kind of effect I see / feel, everything looks convex, like the center of the monitor is coming toward me, it looks like a old CRT curved monitor, but more extreme.
The effect move depending on what I'm facing at, so everything has a swimming effect and lines, walls, everything gets compressed and curved in a direction or another if i'm not perfectly in front of something, and i'm talking barely off center.

It's the same with chromatic aberration, for example, on a picture like this :

I will see something like this on the left if my face is facing the center of the image (notice the orange and blue fringes on the borders of the white line) :

Of course these are some very specific tests image, but it's to quickly explain the issue. I can notice theses issues in the common life, I can see chromatic aberration on letters when reading texts, on the border of lines, characters in a movie etc... In everything, and all of that in that fish bowl / CRT mode.

I found this picture that illustrate pretty well what I see with my glasses on:

I didn't feel these issues before, and I can't check because the opticians threw my old lenses away when they made the new ones...
Since that I saw my eye doctor multiple times, several opticians, an orthoptist, got multiple exams, and no one knows why I see these things. It's been more than two months and my life is a nightmare.

So that's it, I'd like to know other myope persons with glasses feedback on this, if you also have this problems or if it's indeed a problem with my glasses (that I got remade several times, in different materials, from polycarbonate to 1.6, and it didn't solve the issue, I heard it could be relate to the base curve of the lenses, but no opticians seem to understand that).
I guess I should also mention that I don't have any of these distortions / colors when I'm not wearing the glasses / when I wear contacts, however I don't tolerate contacts really well unfortunately and they make my eyes feel really tired which make computer work a really hard task. My prescription is -4,25 in both eyes.

Thank you!

I have none of these issues with my glasses. Tell your eye doctor, maybe they got your perscription wrong?

Also, what type of lenses do you have (any special features, like fading to sunglasses), and what shape are they?
I did tell my eye doctor, I saw him several times, he did some more exam and found nothing in my eyes, he checked my prescription several times too so he doesn't know.

My lenses don't have any special features, they are spheric 1.60 index lenses, with a -4,50 Rx in both eyes (I have 4,25 in my contacts, -4,50 in glasses). We also tried with the optician to make another pair in -4,25 with round lenses (because apparently this can help) but it didn't solve the issue =/
Here is a picture of both of them (the right one, rimless, is my current one, the left one is the weaker one we tried with CR-39 material, but it didn't help):

There are lesnses called ortho k lenses which fix short sideness. Although you don't like contacts, with these lenss you only wear them at night while you sleep and fix your short sideness. So you can basically have normal vision in the day wihtout contacts or glasses. Keep in mind you have to use the lenses every night or your eye will just return to its original shape (short sideness).I had something like -3.25 both eyes when I started doing them years ago. They worked well for me, and after a few years I think they permamently reshaped my eyes to -2.25. You need to find a specialist though. A few disadvantages of these lenses is that they are hard, therefore they feel nowhere as comfortable as soft lensees, so it will take some time to get used to them. They are quite costy and they temporarily damage your eye (the surface of it) if you don't take care at taking them out.
Not exactly blind, but my vision got very blurry and alot lighter for some reason.
Find another optician. Obviously the problem lies on the glasses, and not your eyes. The bluriness happen because the lens power and cylindrical power are not correct.

I heard about them! Explained like this it sounds almost magical, but apparently there can be some problems, like your myopia coming back at the end of the day which can cause problems depending on your situation, did the effect last a whole day for you?

I'm trying to find a new one, but I saw like almost 10 different ones and it just appears that a LOT of opticians only have very limited knowledge on lenses, they just do the most basic things for people without issues and when you start to ask them about problems like my they look at you like an alien and say they never saw anything like that, and will tell me to go back to my ophtalmologist...It's ridiculous.

yeah definately lasts a day. Works fine for both my eyes, with the austigmatism in my left eye. As I said, after you've been wearing them for a while, the effect itself can last for a month. But if you want to have perfect vision each day, you need to use the lenses each night so they can reshape your eye overnight. There's another alternative to the lenses, which is the laser surgery treatment. i can't do it yet because you need to be 20 or something. Heard that it doesn't work for some people, but I think you just need to find someone who's sophisticated to do it.

Laser Surgery is not without risk, a lot of people who did it complain about ghosting, halos, dry eyes and such, some people really regret it and can't come back, so yeah... It's kinda scary.
Oh and I didn't know that the ortho k lenses affected the eye on a that long period, that sounds pretty great.

Not to mention that LASIK is not recommended if you already suffer from dry eyes frequently or have frequent eye/cornea infections.

You should consult your optometrician for advice first. Some people cannot have LASIK because of the way their eyes or cornea are shaped.

As well, if you do go through with it, you would most likely be prescribed eye drops for a while. Definitely make sure to follow the doctor's instructions. Going blind is one of the worst possible things that can happen to anyone.
