Aren't arts strange?
Don't you ever feel like you really appreciate a song, theme, art, drawing, book, or any other sort of art alike but... No one else gets it?

By this I mean that everyone has differing taste, and to some what seems meaningful and beautiful to you may be pointless or meaningless to someone else.

So, what are things (songs, books, art) that you really enjoy but most other people don't get or usually dislike?

In my case, for example, there's a song called "CAFO" by Animals as Leaders, and it's a song I really love, enjoy, feel, and even get inspired by... but most of my friends and people on the comments don't understand it at all (it's fairly technical and complex for the average listener) and it makes me a bit sad sometimes that they can't understand how wonderful it is to me and how happy it makes me, I can feel emotion and a story in every part of the song as opposed to most other people who don't see anything to it other than jumbled up noise.

This would be the song:

to be fair, you have to have a very high iq to understand cafo
CAFO is the ♥♥♥♥! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DWfg5BhYL5I

I watched this specific live video multiple times and they just wreak havoc with that song. Goosebumps through the entire song, the drummer is nailing it. What else is there to say...

You have to have a trained ear and knowledge of music like jazz listeners do to really understand it, but thats just understanding it, enjoying it is up to taste. But personally I'm a prog rock/metal musician & listener so thats what I thrive for, for this sort of material, complexity & technicality, with or without lyrics. For both listening, analyzing and training. I even know 90% of the song on guitar except the sweeping part & big solos cause I haven't mastered the technique yet, just mostly Javier's and a mix of Tosin's parts.

I dunno what I can nail down to a single thing, but I hate it when people generalize all metal as angry music for stupid people. The whole genre itself is so diverse and covers such an amazing variety of ideas and concepts in truly amazing ways. I wish people could drop the stereotpyes and give it more of a chance

This song really speak for itself. It's a cover of Bob Marley's War. But this cover is so explosive when the choruses hit; like the world is crashing down on you.

I love this concert. I watched It so many times too!!! They all seem really into it, even the crowd when they even play along clapping to CAFO even in an Odd-Time Signature! That was amazing. Plus Tosin's movements during the "drop" in The Woven Web are really fulfilling.

It's about things you like that others dont understand, not what you don't like, but thats understandable. It's not heavy metal though.

So, what do you like that is often not understood? It can be anything you enjoy.

I do notice the lack of bass and that they don't sing, though. I don't mind them not singing, but wouldn't bass help encapsulate or perfect their sound?

I can agree! Metal is a really wide genre that people often give the wrong stereotypes to! Metal can be super chill, normal, or totally brutal. You have ISIS which is really calm post-metal, Tool which is prog but not too calm nor harsh, and then Meshuggah which is starting to dig into extreme metal. Some metal songs talk about life, some about drugs, some about life, some humanity, some about politics, and it gets away with so many things that other genres are limited to. Plus metal can be really skillful just as it can be really simple, and every instrument is always showcased as opposed to other genres. It may be a biased opinion but those IMO are pretty objective facts regardless of whether one likes the sounds of the music itself or not.

I was mainly a six-string bassist for a while but AAL got me into extended range guitar.

Javier does both the job of a rhythm guitar and a bass at once. So they don't need a bass - eight string guitars cover the bass frequencies with a slightly different tone, and it works perfect in AAL, although they also use synths.

Though in my case, I've ways LOVED bass and the bass frequencies, so I've always played extended range bass (6-string), but with AAL I started getting more into guitar, and got pretty good at it I'd say, I was already using it for composing but it got me into it more in depth and skillfully.

But I love both, I like both the tone, low end, and massiveness of a bass, but I also really like the speed, tone, and comfort of a guitar - so I'm thinking of getting a long scale eight string guitar (currently have a 7) to fill the gap in what my style is, the middle between bass support and fast soloing & tapping / thumping & lead in guitar, since I do those in both instruments, but I wanna find my center, and it seems to be right there. And then I can switch between both under any circumstances.

I dislike modern music, it’s so copy-pasta. I attract to mostly old music, exactly pop songs from 1990- early 2000 am getting good vibe feelings. I really like Wannabe and ketchup song. I dislike Modern Country, Jazz, hip-pop and rap. I’m so damn conservative.

Same! But thats where prog-rock/metal kicks in, It may be the common sound, but the skill, chord progression, technique, and time signature are a LOT different than modern/pop music, you should look into it if you want modern stuff thats non-copypaste, cause thats where people like me take shelter, since I really dislike songs that only have 4 chords in 4/4 that only talk about "oh why did you leave me give me that patootie", which theres nothing wrong with, to each their own, but that doesn't fulfill me. Though I still really like older music too. There some good prog rock/metal and jazz but its hidden beneath the surface mostly, you have to dig for it.

Of course someone else's gonna like it, other people here clearly liked AAL to, but the post is aimed in general, a few select ones like it, but a majority don't - that's what its aimed at :P
