Does "Main Protagonist is a blatant Mary Sue" count as a genre?

It would encompass Dragonball (all of them), One Punch Man, Mob Psycho 100, and more.

There are TONS of Mary Sue's (funnily enough, the "antagonist" in Youjo Senki is named Mary Sue), Raizel (Noblesse), Yulian (Red Storm), Hinomaru (Hinomaru Zumou), Baki (maybe?), Lee Hyun (Legendary Moonlight Scriptor), MC from Gosu, Mujang, Jay Jo (from Windbreaker and is SORT of a Mary Sue).

Though these are manga.

I can’t speak for the other ones, but Goku is far from the perfect character. His habits of letting his guard down and wasting time put him in more danger than necessary.
Eh, there's not much tension in fights because either he outright beats them to a pulp, or, much like with Frieza, he gets beat down until he gets a new transformation, then wins the fight. Even in Super, after getting beaten by Jiren twice, he's come back, and the spoilers show he's going to get an even stronger version of his latest transformation and he's going to win, so it's not like there's any dramatic tension due to the fact that he cannot die (with the exception of Cell).

Goku died to Raditz as well.

His fight with Cell and Kid Buu were quite the struggle, but I respect your viewpoint.

Does any anime fit into one genre?
Most of them seem to be "pick 5-6 of these".
Space Comedy Action Adventure Drama with Super Powers.
Yup most of them don't

I'm starting to take an interest in music anime. I haven't watched Love Live, but past the "NICO NICO NII!", I hear it has a good story.
ooo? Interesting genre!

I don't know if you knew this, but the whole reason he died to Cell was because originally, the series was going to continue with Gohan as the main character and leave Goku behind, but that changed by the time the Buu saga came out. I see what you're saying with Raditz though.

Pretty much action, sports, mecha and things like that. It's easier to say which ones I don't like that much: which is drama (most of it it's too overdramatic and slow *corf *corf Clannad *corf) and slice of life. Comedy... depends.
I don't like ecchi either because it's purely fanservice and I personally find it quite childish. I don't mind scenes where characters are naked or whatever, it's just the way ecchi anime treats that kind of thing, you know? I don't know how to explain it; yeah, childish, puerile.
Ah, yeah, and there's harem which it's either like this: 1. full of girls = tons of silly fanservice 2. full of boys: boooooooring zzzzzz (except Hakuouki, lol, Brothers Conflict was utterly boring for example though).

There are exceptions to everything, obvs.

Cyberpunk, action, psychological, sci-fi, and super power are the ones that I enjoy the most. Now I did watch small bits of anime when it came on Fox at about 5 a.m. on Saturdays as a kid. However my experience with these shows was extreamly limited at the time. I tend to miss most of the shows because it was way too early in the morning for me.

Now flash forward a few years when Sci-Fi channel became a thing on most major providers. This was the time that I found anime. Now this is a few years before Toonami was a thing, and at this time Sci-Fi was having regular theme week anime movies every night for the month. It started with cybepunk anime week. The first anime movie I ever watched was Ghost in the Shell, and right after that was Galaxy Express 999: The Movie. These two classics were the start of my love for not only anime but the genre as well.

So you like Psychological genre that does not have clichés and up to date?
yes and no. no to the "no cliches" part because art will always have tropes; which is its structure.
although what does matter though, is the creativity embraced in the subversion of tropes & ideas.

For anime / ecchi, i prefer if there's romance mixed in with tsundere-ism

For hentai, i like anything, apart from goru and scat
