Sometimes I look back at games like Speedball 2 and Supercars 2 and Bubble Bobble and I think things were better back then.
Sometimes I look at L4D2 and ARK and Skyrim and I think wow when I was a kid I wished for things likethis and now they are here.
Luckily for me I dont have to choose because I still have all my old computers and games from back to 1985.
I am a lot older and I also remember all the crap they pumped out in those days.
It was never any different.
"E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial" was released in 1982 for Atari. A lazy cash in on a hit movie. Considered one of the worst games of all times.
>Rock of Ages 1 & 2: The best example of something that was made with passion imo. Original gameplay, creative art direction and just overall an enjoyable experience.
>Legend of Grimrock 1 & 2: Very well made games from people who enjoyed similar oldschool dungeon crawlers. This game should be used as reference whenever any game decides to make a dungeon.
>Subnautica: Out of all the survival sandbox games out there, this one is by far the most original and creative. Highly immersive and it focuses more on actual survival and exploration rather than combat which is almost non existant.
Heck, even some AAA games are clearly made with love. Just look at Witcher 3, R6S, Elex, or MH:W.
Full release just came out. I played 60 hours in early access, I would've played more but I didn't want to spoil the story for myself too much.
