I miss old shooters
Whatever happened to the shooter genre? To think there was a time when we had games like Blood, Shadow Warrior, Duke Nukem, DOOM, Wolfenstein, Quake, Redneck Rampage, Hexen, Rise of the Triad, Heretic and Rune all on the market at the same time makes me wish I can go back. A time when levels were intricate, varied and memorable, plot and gameplay was simple and to the point because above all being fun was what mattered, the standard difficulty was, skillful, tough as nails and would make the modern self-confessed "hardcore gamer" crumble under their learning curves. FPS games are just so.... Softcore.... To what they used to be.

I write this thread because today I was playing some good ol Blood and my brother noticed my screen and said something along the lines of "wow those graphics this game doesn't even look that hard I've beaten call of duty on heroic". And that struck a nostalgic nerve for me, someone from this younger generation thinking a majestic masterpiece of gaming, the holiest of the build engine trinity, was such♥♥♥♥♥♥just by looking at it. And compared it to call of duty.........

I want history to repeat itself and FPS action games can return to their former glory. DOOM 2016 was great, and Eternal is looking amazing. And there are some fantastic games out today that actually capture the spirit of old. DUSK, Ion Maiden, and Amid Evil to name a few. I should clarify, I do not think all FPS games suck these days, I enjoy quite a lot of them. I just really miss how they used to be.

You can still play it and enjoy.
Don't worry, fellow Old School FPS comrade; in recent months, the Old School FPS genre is experiencing a renaissance in their numbers.

Do they have a group to follow? Sounds interesting to find players to play.

That's true, today you have games with autoaim, press 1 button abilities (overwatch: press button to rocket jump. Quake and tf: you actually have to practice and be good) doom is straight up a masterpiece and I wish we could go back to the time where FPS weren't for 7 year olds (cough, fortnite, cough) and weren't created to be stupid cash cows. There are good FPS today too, look at doom 2016, look at rainbow six siege, look at counter strike. The problem is that these games are harder than "point at the enemy and shoot" that the popular games have.

I don't know, but from what I know, there are countless groups that cater to the genre, ranging from casual to competitive in nature.

some what yes, if anything killing floor 2 has a good doom feel

mods are what make doom good
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oSzYliSASKc like this, that most of ya should know

doom is harder based on how the maps were made, doom 2016 feel more like a joke in most cases, because you kill bad guys get hp and ammo back

No offense but the old games weren't hard at all.

The games you mentioned below are some I want to play aswell, since I need to fill that classic gap aswell.

i have a lot of nostalgia for RTCW:ET. in my opinion it will always be the best MP shooter in existence.

One I really liked but was sorta obscure was Kileak.

But the first Doom and Wolfenstein were the best for early shooting. Before Hexen and Quake etc. Loved Descent (Now Overload) but 6dof is its own thing

I don't miss them as I have most of the games I enjoyed from the 80s and 90s in my possession that can be played whenever I feel like.
