Why do now all companies make launchers?
It's kind of stupid to have a launcher for every game. Bethesda, Steam,, Uplay, Epic Games, Battlenet, just to name a few.

is this the new trend?

yeah , its a new "why do we even need valve trend "

if you ask me , all that is just the starting signs of a video game crash , instead of crappy consoles and unfinished games ( those exist aswell ) we have tons of launchers , alpha builds that get launched as full games and other bs , same with consoles , im sure ps5 will have like 2 midgen recycles because they saw people dont complain with the pro

all will just lead to another crash

No, it's not new. Remember Origin? That came out years ago with BF3 if I'm correct, yet now it's getting out of hand for whatever reason.

Should've whined earlier. Too late now lol.

I don't mind the extra launchers as long as they provide actual purchasing options. I don't want Valve to become a monopoly on video game distribution.

Steam is not a launcher it's a client.

Most games still require Steam to run in the background so it is still a launcher.

No, by all definitions it's a client.

Where's the distinction? Steam is required to launch games, like any other DRM.

Launcher- Software that causes applications to load and run.

Cause steam is more then just a very simple launcher like fallout 4 has or shadow of the tomb raider has. It's a full blown client with some social media aspects that launchers don't have. Like forums, uploading screenshots ect.. What fallout 4 has or SOTTR has are launchers. Stop mixing them up.

Because it is PC gaming. And no one holds the right to sell game on the platform.
whatamidoing Apr 17, 2019 @ 5:11pm
Because if they make their own the publisher gets more money per sale by not having to pay steam.

But if you don't use the customer service... Isn't it just a launcher to add DRM to the game. If you bought the game you don't have a choice to pick what launcher to use. You can still use steam without owning a game but it's primary used because you must have a launcher to play the game.

Becuase they are already known and there is no reason them to give steam a cut ?
