If the ocean floor isn't land what is it?

Eh, Anglosphere problems. We have a less confusing language that makes sure sand doesn't sound even remotely like either, much less a mix of both! Mwa ha ha!

Just asked mum and she said yes, sand is called sand because it's on the border of sea and land so there you have it case closed. someone update the wiki

FWIW sand is often found in places that are quite far from the sea.

anyway:

Etymology 1
From Middle English sand, from Old English sand, from Proto-Germanic *samdaz (compare West Frisian sân, Dutch zand, German Sand, Danish, Swedish and Norwegian sand), from Proto-Indo-European *sámh₂dʰos (compare Latin sabulum, Ancient Greek ἄμαθος (ámathos)), from *sem- (“to pour”) (compare English dialectal samel (“sand bottom”), Old Irish to-ess-sem (“to pour out”), Latin sentina (“bilge water”), Lithuanian sémti (“to scoop”), Ancient Greek ἀμάω (amáō, “to gather”), ἄμη (ámē, “water bucket”)).

Deserts are full of sand, deserts are land, so sand is land, kind of.

I know I’m getting r/woooshed here but I’m doing it anyways.
Sand comes from a proto-German word “zand”, meaning or relating to the unstable or wet ground near a river or other body of water (thank you 8th grade English)
Then language happened and meanings got screwed up.
