Why is rap so vulgar?
I don't like rap for a variety of reasons (lack of musical progression, instrumentation, harmony, etc.), but that's personal opinion.

What is absolutely not debatable is how vulgar rap can often be. It's not even a novelty, it's part and parcel of the genre.

Why do you think rap as a genre relies so heavily on vulgar themes?

Check out Lecrae if you want to listen to Christian rap.

will you stop whining if I link a rap song where the instrumental has progression or are you just looking for people to agree with you on this subject

That's not whining. This is called conversing: posit your position and detail why it is so.

This is whining:

RAAAAAAAAAAP SUZZZZZZXXXXXXXXXXX
why is it soooooooooobad peoples?
u like rap u dumbn
I just don't really understand the point of the thread I suppose.

It seems to me the thread question is (was), rhetorical. The OP knows why rap is vulgar, and is using the thread to voice their opinion and disgust about it. All fine in good in my book, but not much in the way of conversation.

My question is why is rap so proliferated with vulgarity as an outlier. As in: sure, other genre have their vulgar examples, but as I said in my first post rap seems largely defined by vulgarity, unlike the other genre.

That is the question: why the exception?

The reason so many rap songs tend to be entrenched in vulgarity is probably due to the culture that surrounds the artists that write them. Many of the most prevalent rappers came from low-income and high crime areas in which vulgarity is commonplace even amongst kids. Due to this, vulgarity is used as a means of expression by a lot of these rappers.

You act like you know a lot about music but you really seem like you just took one or two music appreciation classes in high school and used that to push your agenda of "all music must have these elements to be good."

Try reading the thread and not making assumptions that cannot be supported. I readily admitted I know little about music. But I'm not an idiot, and my ears work just fine, thank you.

They didn't completely pay attention to the actual instrumental.

Yeah, it kinda shows.

If you weren't so preoccupied with other people talking about instrumental complexity, you would have noticed the at least 3 comments people made about why.
There is no exception, that's just what is mainstream.

I've been paying more attention to the thread than you seem to have,,
If you admit you know little about music don't act like you know what elements it should or should not have. My assumptions don't need to be supported when they aren't assumptions.
Good job not addressing anything else I said in that couple paragraphs btw.

The way modern rap started was an expression of frustration towards civil rights violations going on at the time. The golden age of rap was when it told stories. An example is Ice Cube’s “F*** The Police”, which is about police brutality events that ended in death for its victims and the ensuing protests and riots thereafter. One such event happened in Cincinnati, the other in Los Angeles.

Personally, today, it’s hard for me to like it. A lot of the lyrics are too misogynistic for my liking.

Wasn’t always vulgar though. A lot of it got its start in electric funk. One of the more notable samples you hear during the golden age were created by “The Ohio Players” for “The Funky Worm”.

The first bit of rap it was like about Freddy Kruger or Parent's Don't Understand. Then NWA blew up and it went all about killing, ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ and humping money.

Because I'm here trying to have a friendly conversation and you're over there with your butt all bleeding.

Go away, please.

Perhaps that also came from you creating a stigma against the poor.
