Do you guys feel extremely uncomfortable while eating in public?
I just wanted to say that I do, I feel like I look bad in front of people when I'm eating but I am almost certain that I don't look as bad. This happens especially when I'm eating foods you have to bite because you have to open your mouth a lot for those. I can't even chew food in comfort. And when I'm done eating i feel like my mouth smells really bad and there is something stuck in my teeth. Do you guys feel like this too?

Ehm, no. The other people eating the same way. You don't need to feel uncomfortable, absolutly no reason for that.

I rather often eat alone because I'm a slow eater and I don't like it when other people have already finished their meal and then have to wait for me. That makes me feel uncomfortable.

No, why? It's just food.

If I had a girlfriend I would still feel uncomfortable, I mean what if she is thinking that I look bad while eating? Would you kiss a guy who looks like a beast while eating? I especially don't want to disgust a loved one's eyes

Not at all; I eat, john, it's what I do.
Yes, yes I do. That's why Japanese restaurants with closed booths are best.

There's something about eating in public that's embarrassing...I still don't understand why anyone would agree to sit at a table and have a conversation while shoving food in the same hole you're trying to talk from.

And when you're at a fancy restaurant, you're wearing your nicer clothes, and risking getting food on them. It's a very weird dynamic.

your face can't change that much when you eat, are you just eating in a weird way?
I eat normally, what makes me uncomfortable is people seeing me opneing up my mouth showing stuff up in it. And then there is like stains on my mouth and stuff too..

No
I feel uncomfortable seeing me finish my food before everyone else while speaking with coworkers at lunch.

It should be a pleasurable experience for everyone. I don’t know where people get the notion that it is embarrassing to eat in front of other people. Almost any eating establishment has seating to eat with others.

Nope.

I have too many other reasons to have people judge me to worry about what they think about me eating.

that's what handkerchief and napkins are for :p i think ur thinking too much about it, people in a restaurant usually just want to eat and then leave, it's less stressful than a grocery shopping trip tbh

^This. But if you're really getting food around the outside of your mouth while eating, just train yourself to put smaller portions on the fork and to eat more slowly. Rushing meals sometimes seems like a trait among men, but I'm not sure how much truth there is in it.
Oh unless i'm eating a sandwich and bit it from uncomfortable angles i don't. But i don't want to risk a greasy mouth, so i wipe my mouth after every bite.

Nothing weird about it, it's why restaurants give after dinner mints and toothpicks, a lot of people feel the same way. It's a weird human trait though because everyone on the planet sees other people eating.all the time and I doubt many ever give it a second thought. Different maybe, not weird though. Like Asians slurp noodles, the Greeks or Arabs(I think)eat meals with their hands in groups, burping is considered a compliment in some places etc it's all good.
I wouldn't worry about it.

Not really bothered about doing anything in public.

I guess some people really do have social anxiety that bad, huh? And they just can't get over it, no matter how irrational it is?

I really don't get it because as a kid I was constantly harassed and bullied. I used to walk everywhere with my head down, looking at the ground. At school I would sit at my desk trying to appear relaxed, but instead I was tense and hyper-alert. I would also constantly second-guess myself, and replay the things I'd said and done on loop.

And then I made a choice to stop caring, and it was really that simple. I just stopped. If I could make that choice, I think anyone could too. But maybe that's not true.
I have pretty bad social anxiety, I can't really talk to people, or even look at them.
But I don't care what they think of me at the same time...
It's really strange.

And yeah, I was bullied too, still 'hyper alert' so to speak, I just call it awareness of surroundings. But I don't really second guess a lot of my actions, I'll look back on it and go 'well that was ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ stupid of me', but I didn't care that I actually did it, or worry about doing it again.

You worry too much about what other people think. Most people are too busy with their lives to care about how someone eats their food, lol.
Klogg May 24, 2019 @ 8:34am
Yeah. I actually feel uncomfortable and embarassed everytime I eat.
Thus I don't eat all that much.
