Best advice I can give is learn the moves, and how to put them into a combo chain. Best way to practice this is in practice mode, offline vs. mode against the computer, or arcade mode. To get better just increase the computer's difficulty till you can master that difficulty. Once you mastered the highest difficulty you should be able to play online vs. mode.
What game?

well kof 98 to start . play it in android and get mauled by computer .

found out that i button mashing .

for now i am training trying to do moves .
On PC Fighting Games, I stick to training mode until I kind of figure out what combos do what for characters I like.

For example, I just goof around in Soul Caliubur 6's Training mode until I get the hang of Geralt's moveset, or 2B's, and then I play other characters with a similar mindset and use the same keyboard combos to see what different combos do.

many of those old fighter games were button mashers, I played a lot of street fighter on the Sega Genisis back in the 90's, Mortal Kombat was the same as well if memory serves me.

I mean, you press buttons to make the thing on the screen go, but if one mindlessly mashes he won't get far.
Timing is crucial.

Practice some combos with stationary bots, then try to fight actual bots on easiest difficulty to hardest, then you can try arcade mode, if the fighting game that you play has it

I'm going to assume you're fighting human players, or intend on it at the very least.

I would recommend you prioritize learning fundamentals over combos. A touch of death combo is worthless if you can't touch them to begin with. Fundamentals transfer better than combos so it'll make picking up other fighting games easier, too. Most newer fighting games should have robust enough tutorials for you to at least figure out what you're supposed to be doing.

So find a group of people to play with and practice things like approaching, defending, and breaking through an opponent's guard. Learn to pick up an enemy's habits and abuse it while being mindful of your own habits.

Most importantly, do not practice with the computer. They don't fight like people and if you get used to fighting the computer, you'll get crushed by anyone who knows what they're doing.

Start with a game that is friendly to beginners.

Mortal Kombat or Injustice are great for beginners and once you are better, you can play TEKKEN.
As Mr. Gency said, fundamentals first. Learn how to land hits, how to defend, how to break away from pressure and such. Learn to spot the openings, how to punish and how to avoid being punished. Then comes the exploitation of said openings. Usually, that consists of hitting an opponent during the recovery time from a blocked or whiffed attack. If defensive play isn't your thing however, you need to learn how to apply pressure through relatively safe block-strings, mix-ups and cross-ups. Inexperienced players eventually falter if they're only defending. For advanced players, you'll also need to learn how to bait, because they know how to break out from pressure. Baiting is not easy, and always carries a risk, but it's a necessary one to take.

And some advice on learning combos. The first bread-and-butter combos are pretty easy in every fighting game. But the advanced stuff can be quite demanding. You'll frequently see long and complex combos in combo videos, later challenge mode stages and matches featuring good players. When doing those challenges, it's important that you don't try the whole combo at once repeatedly, but use a method called "chunking". Divide the combo up into "chunks" and practice each of them individually, before trying the whole combo.

Another word: the learning never stops in fighting games, because every new opponent might bring something you haven't seen before into the match. If you want to play a fighting game well, the key word is "commitment".

P.S. You also need to learn the terminology. Find out what a mix-up, cross-up, reversal... and such are.

how about virtual Fighter 2
Play guitar hero with a controller.
Fighting Game I play is Tekken. There are Frames when it comes to attack and defense. Finish a String Combo whilst the enemy is blocking and you’re left with -15 frames. So you can’t do anything and is open to an attack.

Stand Guard can block High and Mid attacks but can get hit by Lows and Grabs (but you can escape Grabs).

Crouch Guard blocks Lows and dodges Highs.
