Yeah okay. Cohn says it's his personal best cRPG of all time though. I trust Cohn. Maybe you don't. That's okay. It's still a ringing endorsement and extremely high praise from someone with a lot of influence in the industry and especially this genre as a whole.
Though in my personal excuse, I haven't played P:K given the buggy rep its gotten (yeah, yeah Deadfire's got bugs also). Maybe when the price point is right for me, I'll take a swing at it.
BG2 and Planescape: Torment were super good, but they’re hard to go back to after playing some of the modern CRPGs.
Kingmaker was a cool idea, but Pathfinder’s ruleset is pretty archaic and that kingdom management half of the game needs a rethink.
Didn’t care for Original Sin, but I haven’t played DoS2 yet.
- PoE 1/2
- Fallout 1/2 (3,4 are crap)
- Torment Planescape / Numenera
- DoS 2 (like the mechanics, not so much the beaten track lore)
- Elder Scrolls
- Pillars of Eternity (especially 2)
- Icewind Dale (especially 2)
- Planescape: Torment
- Fallout (2 and NV)
- Arcanum
i've tried Arx Fatalis and Soulbringer some time ago.
looks like the devs are coming out with an endless mode/procedurally generated DLC...a feature I deeply wish that PoE 2 has.
Kingmaker isn’t awful, by any means, it’s just hamstrung by a couple of key issues. One of which is the combat and class systems are derived from a different game format and made to work as best they can. Versus PoE’s gameplay that was designed for a video game from the ground up. The difference is real noticeable.
