What exactly is "woke" and how does it lead to one going broke?

When a guy sits down, and their legs are spread apart for more comfort in the crotch area. Especially if you do it on a bus, you're a scumbag for doing it and feminists hate it.

I legit saw an article a couple days ago how some feminist won some science prize for creating a chair that has arm rests that go inwards so guys have to sit with their legs as closed as possible to sit there, because the chair is to combat man spreading.

You can think of the most ridiculous sjw outrages these days, and it's still not as ridiculous as what they're outraged over in real life. They have single handedly killed satire because it's impossible to tell satire from reality these days.

Literally today I saw a tweet of some woke feminist who said some white guy tried to help her grab her bag from overhead storage on a plane and she denied him as "a quick and calculated act of resistance". That's how ridiculous they are these days

I can see why people are getting annoyed with these woke types.

Uhhhh, they've been holding back all this time!".

So modern comics are like bad anime then?

It means that a greedy corporate entity (usually a media company) tries to appear like they're the good guys and are "awake" to the problems facing the world (i.e. being "woke") of course, rather than donate their laundered money to Africa or to the poor or something that would actually help, they spend 10s of millions on a product (like a movie, book or game) that achingly panders to a very vocal and highly aggressive minority of people (who may not even be interested in the product anyway), usually sacrificing story to throw in some kind of awkward topical statement that doesn't really mesh with the style.

Then, for a bonus, mix in a sense of disdain for the audience and claim anyone who doesn't like the unoriginal, pandering garbage is racist/sexist/incel/alt-right/etc, rather than understanding that they're tired of unoriginal, pandering garbage and. ... voila! You have an unoriginal garbage film that most people don't want to see and even many of the people they directly pandered to can see right through the icy-thin layer of face-value projection.

So, in the end, no one watches the damn thing and (like Ghostbusters 2016, something that helped start the phrase) it flops ... "goes broke", if you will. Or, if the people did go watch it and liked it, they instantly forget about it the moment the next corporately-mandated "progressive" movie is announced. Look at Captain Marvel - that movie was relevant for like two weeks.

TL;DR "Get Woke Go Broke" = "Hey there fellow kids! Racism is terrible, so we're casting minorities as minor characters but still let old white men direct (aka "The Force is Female")

I actually never understood why Marvel didn't just make them as new superheroes rather than replacing old ones with new "Diverse" ones. If you want diverse superheroes, make them their own characters, don't replace old ones people like.

What I find funny about the Gillette outrage, is the people that bought Gillette products only to destroy them...

The next victim of go woke, get broke is gonna be the james bond franchise, because the new 007 is a black woman. Nothing against black women, but the fact that 007 is a womanising swavy British dude and them making this change is only for purposes of "going woke".

James bond franchise was already ridiculous as it was, and likely only still around because of the novelty of what James bond is. I don't see any scenario where this movie isn't going to be a flop.

And instead of creating more awesome original black women protagonists, they have to ride on the coat tails of a 40+ year franchise to make it relevant.

But I'm no woman of colour so my opinion means absolutely nothing in this respect, even if I think it's probably disrespectful to black women by implying they can't create their own original protagonists and stories on their own and have to be propped up by existing white men to be successful.

Why make new character that nobody cares/will care about when you can take advantage of a pre-existing character with a large audience, surely that audience will stay with the changes, surely.

Yep. The fact that the new iron man is an 11 year old black girl is to combat the stereotype (that I've never even heard of before this) that black women and young people can't be geniuses.

Or how the new Spiderman is a black Latino kid who has way more powers than the original Spiderman and better in every way, even though stan Lee specifically told marvel comics not to touch Spiderman the same way they are with Thor and wolverine (which have both since flopped).

Wolverine was specifically changed to a girl because apparently wolverine embodied "toxic masculinity" (his berserker rage) , so they made a new teenage girl wolverine who's entire problems in the comics is teenage angsty drama and dating boys, something that original wolverine fans care nothing about.

Yeah that's always been dumb, people don't know what boycotts mean. Unless they were products they already had when they decided they don't like the company, which may have been the case in many of these cases.

But them losing 8 billion in half a year is quite telling about the back lash.

From my experience, pretty much. I used to like going into my local Comic shop, buy a few MT:G boosters, pick up the latest issue of Ironman or Doctor Strange, maybe browse for other comics I've never seen/heard of.... Now though? I dropped MT:G due to nonsense balance/mechanics of the newer generations and I dropped most comics because it's just blatantly contrived and feels like they are hitting checkboxes rather than making dynamic/entertaining stories that try to make sense.

Same! IMO, these new writers need to use established names/legacies as a crutch to support their bad characters/writing. That's why I liked the framework of Green Lantern; the ring gets passed down to someone else. So you can write in, literally, whoever you want to change the story up; as long as you still have the common Green Lantern themes/villains... it's still Green Lantern. They can even do "spinoffs" like Nightwing or Batman Beyond(really dug beyond until they pulled the "clone of batman" nonsense)... but no, they can't stand on their own and need to change the staple.

That's why I started looking to more "indie" Comics for that "Super Hero fix". Ended up finding things like Jawbreakers, Paper Girls, Black Science, Revival and American Gods. Didn't much care for Revival but tastes and all that.

Actually, it's the people who have control of multi-billion dollar media empires (now THAT'S buying power!) telling you what to care about, while not caring about it themselves, because they want people to not think and mindlessly consume their product.
