Can scratched DVD damage my player?
I have Fallout 3 Goty retail version, the first disc has multiple scratches, but those are very light scratches and hardly visible without a exposure to intensive light.

I wonder if putting damaged (in my case lightly scratched) disc can break my player?

Afaik, no. If it could damage it, im fairly sure it would be common knowledge by now.

When ps2 was still around i had lots of used games which had lots of bad scratches and my ps2 is still working. Its over a decade old, and i have used it for hundreds of hours, likely thousands.

.... only if the dvd is made of loose steel wool.
You do know the thing that reads your DVD doesn't touch your DVD?

I've yet to see a DVD so scratched up that it damaged a laser beam.

.... we need to make some malware that when read by the dvd player off a disk will cause the firmware of the player to be burnt with blank data.
if your drive is spinning for hours to read the scratch data then maybe

like whir stop
whir stop
over and over
Small scratches.... I would say no.

If the scratches make it skip, here's a cool trick for small scratches.... take DVD ( or CD ) and wet it with water, get a small soft hand towel and wet that too.. put a small coin size patch of baby powder on wet towel.... smooth out powder so it's wet as well.

With soft circular motions around the entire DVD like if your hand was the hand of a clock ( it doesn't matter clockwise or counter clockwise ) for about 30 second.... rinse off, dry, and try to play it. If it still doesn't work try again as many times as you like until you get results or you just don't care anymore.... lol.

The baby powder is fine enough not to make scratches but still enough grit to smooth them out a bit.... it's not a miracle cure all... but I've gotten a few DVD to work that wouldn't play at all.

( Edit: no guarantees, not liable for any damage ect, ect,... lol )

no but a dj can scratch some banging tunes :D
i might try that on bakugan defensers super scratch ps3 dvd
I always heard you were supposed to use non gritty toothpaste and a soft cloth.

I'm pretty sure that that's only for superficial scratches that don't actually affect anything. Because if it affects the playing of the data, that's scratch can't be fixed.
