Playnite, on the other hand, took only 20 minutes to import 17,000 games across 8 services (more than GOG can integrate), has the ability to also handle tons of emulated games, takes just a few seconds to refresh libraries on startup (GOG usually took several minutes), has extremely customizable views, provides way more information about the games, and never used more than 1% of my CPU (whereas Galaxy typically hovers between 10-15% before it eventually fails at starting up properly).
Obviously, if you just have a few dozen games on other services on Steam, there's no need to use either (you can just add non-Steam games to the Steam launcher manually if you want to have it all in one place). And if your libraries are small, than GOG Galaxy might be working fine. But from my experience, if you want to manage large libraries across a multitude of services, Playnite is an excellent solution whereas Galaxy simply doesn't work.
After discovering this issue, I did my research and switched over to Playnite on a recommendation. It was so much better than I could have asked for
To start, the application itself is open-source, and anyone can make addons for it, all of which are free to use. There are integrations available for just about every library you could access, and tons of customizable addons to round out your experience. But the biggest difference that has blown me away: it natively can detect and organize ROMs. If you’re into emulation, you know how big this is, as it’ll now put those games right alongside your others to be launched directly
Seriously, this app has been exactly what I’ve been looking for, and I’ve been having a blast fine-tuning it to fit my needs
Same here. GOGG2.0 was really nice and enjoyable until it stop working and start breaking without community support. Shame on GOG.
