Apparently the community guidelines don't allow you to talk about emulators but...
There's literally going be to an emulating platform available right here on steam....
How does that work ?
https://store.steampowered.com/app/1118310/RetroArch/

EDIT: Apparently it's "console emulation" that isn't allowed to be talked about...

I'll let you look at their logo again

So I guess that software would be an exception to the rule. We'll see how it plays out.

Interesting.

How does it work?

It works by me posting the following.

I love legally emulating classic and retro devices and Steam are going to have to update their policies to prohibit doing it illegally (and allow it legally) or a mod will have to ban us both for a day.

I do it all the time. Maybe I'm doing it right now. Maybe I can tell other people how to do it legally.

...Personally, I even use RetroArch! A lot!

they are going to ban every post on its discussion forum for talking about emulators

But I suppose, technically RetroArch is more of a framework than an actual emulator. Technically. Which means... it's something that can exist, but you can't talk about what it actually does or facilitates until the rules are updated.

Fun fact is, I actually originally made this thread in their own community hub.
They promptly deleted my post and gave me a warning for "spam"
After one message......

And they also linked me the community guidelines which do talk about how basically talking about their product, isn't allowed on steam :lunar2019deadpanpig:

It'd be cool if we could get a psx emulator up in this.

I can see their forum being a lively place for discussion.

I think when they allow an emulation FRAMEWORK onto the platform it's rules anarchy as far as emulation chat is concerned, as long as you aren't showing people how to do it (against the law)

so imo the only thing to do is get the discrepancy noticed and mods talking about it. it helps them! they might even clarify their stance!

So... the funny thing is, I'm actually talking with the moderator over there that did delete my post and he told me
"Talking about emulation isn't against the rules. Console emulation is. Take a look at the rules page again for reference :) "

To which I simply replied
"Why is, one of the logos you're using, featuring consoles like the SNES, NES, Megadrive, Gameboy and a PS1 controller ?

I honestly think the moderators and some of their policies are beyond absurd.

I've had moderator activity overturned after taken up with support, and more often than not support cant explain how my posts count as "spam" or why my particular "off topic" was too "off topic" for "off topic".

...i thought all emulation was against the rules, but apparently now it's consoles? either my memory is crapper than i thought or that changed abruptly, brb, checking myself into the old folks home

So we can't talk about stuff we're using officially on Steam? Bye, my goodsets.
pants Jul 12, 2019 @ 4:58pm
As a turbo RetroArch user, and a guy who is slightly drunk right now:

someone should just take multiple screenshots of the "cores" menu from RetroArch itself, because not everything in it is a console but most of it sure is
