If a hotdog is a sandwich, then a hamburger is too. We have very strict definitions set in place for different types of shapes the bread can take. If we were to be too loosely with what a sandwich is we could even say a quesadilla is like a grilled cheese sandwich between two hard tortillas.

Sure. Burger can be a sandwich, sometimes, too. Or even a panini. And a hotdog can be the U.S. equivalent of a taco!

Sometimes they'll toss dogs into the sandwich section on menus but only because nobody really knows WTF they are.. and if they actually did then they prolly would never eat another dog unless they were hammered.
